6 Things I Would Change About SUNY Oswego

We've all thought about it.

6 Things I Would Change About SUNY Oswego
Start Up NY

The end of my freshman year at SUNY Oswego is approaching, and I'm starting to reflect back on the time I've spent here so far. I've had the time of my life, but that's definitely not to say that there aren't more than a few things I would change about this school. So, here's my list of things that I would change about SUNY Oswego because we've obviously all thought about it.

1. The Weather

We're situated right on Lake Ontario, which means that we have access to some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. However, it also means that crazy wind hits us every single day, no matter the weather. It could be sunny and windy, cold and windy, rainy and windy, snowy and windy, or whatever. You're not truly a SUNY Oswego student if you haven't almost been knocked over on the way to class.

2. The food

I live for taco dinners and late night at Lakeside and the pasta Cooper always has for lunch, but there are some days where I would rather eat anything but the dining hall food. After weeks on end of eating nothing but dining hall meals, it gets a little old.

3. Broken Elevators

I live in Funnelle Hall which is a building with nine floors and over four hundred people. Without fail, there is always at least one elevator that is down. Always. One time two of them were broken and we all had to leave like twenty minutes earlier for class because it took so long to get an elevator. I guess it's just all a part of the adventure.

4. The Wi-Fi

We're a big campus, so I can understand how it could be difficult to get the wi-fi to work on every part of the campus at all times. But when it cuts off when you're in the middle of taking a quiz or takes absolutely forever to load your homework, it's easy to pray for better Internet.

5. Hot Water

I'm sure it took a while, but we all figured out the perfect time to shower that provided the best access to hot water. For me, the only shower that provides nonstop hot water is the middle one, so I always have to wait until that one's free. I would definitely love more than one shower with hot water, though.

6. More Cafes on Campus

We all love getting coffee at Lake Effect or fries at Crossroads, but I wish there were more food options on campus, like a Moe's or a Panera. It would definitely provide an escape from dining hall food, and maybe give you a taste of the food from home.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
