If you're lucky enough to be close with your family, you're lucky enough. Spending time with my family is my favorite thing to do, mainly for a few of my favorite people in the world: my cousins. They range in age and all bring something different to the family events, which always keeps things interesting. Here are the best things about being close with your cousins:
1. Actually looking forward to family events.
You're never dragged to unwanted family reunions or holidays because you can't wait to spend time with your cousins. You can catch up from the months of school that you've been apart and tell them all the exciting stories that you're other friends are tired of hearing.
2. Having people who understand your crazy family.
They already know all the quirks your family has and you don't have to act surprised when someone says something crazy because they already know what's coming.
3. Not feeling bad about not bringing a significant other to family functions.
No boyfriend? No problem! They would take away from time with your cousins anyway.
4. Having the siblings you've never had.
Not only do I have my actual older brother, but with them I get older sisters, a younger sister, and younger brothers. We can treat each other as such and it makes me feel a little less lonely than having just one other sibling.
5. A guaranteed laugh.
Whether its a family holiday, family vacation, or just a get together, you know you're walking into a good time. No matter what else is going on in your life, you'll have a few hours of good laughs ahead.
6. Constant therapists.
Don't get me wrong, my roommies and my best friends give some great advice, but there's nothing like having a talk with the cousins. Your family knows you better than anyone and can give you the brutally honest advice you need sometimes.
7. Being able to act like your younger self again.
My two youngest cousins are what keep me young. I absolutely love spending time with them because I get to play games I haven't since my childhood or just being able to be silly with them. They let me relive my childhood.
8. Having the best friends ever.
Being close with your cousins means having constant best friends, but even better because they're stuck with you forever. My cousins have given me the best memories, hardest laughs, best advice, and a shoulder to cry on whenever I need it. I never have to explain myself or my family to them because they already know all about it. We can be silly with our younger cousins and more serious when we need it. We have the perfect balance of everything and that's what makes them my favorite people on the planet.
