For some schools, finals week is just beginning, some are just ending. Either way, it is almost time for most college students to come home for winter break and visit their family.

Think of winter break as a month-long gift from universities so you do not have to be a student any more, well for at least a month. Some students have long travels to go back home and others have short travels. Either way you are not allowed in the dorms and you have to make sure that you bring EVERYTHING that you need when going back to visit.

1) Clothes

You do not necessarily need to bring all of your clothes for winter break, just bring enough that you need to wear for a month and remember that there is free laundry at your parent's house. Or bring some of the clothes that have been sitting in your closet for awhile and drop them off! *be sure to bring winter clothing if you live in a snowy state :) *

2) Electronics

This one is pretty obvious, of course bring your phone and laptop with you back home and any other electronic items that you think that you need when living there for a month *DO NOT FORGET CORDS FOR CHARGING*

3) Valuables

Anything that is expensive and that could be potentially stolen while you are at home or on vacation for winter break, bring them with you!

4) Anything that could potentially help you while traveling

During the winter, anything can happen on slick roads, and for those of you that are driving back home make sure that you have an emergency kit for yourself when you are traveling. This driving kit could include: First Aid Kit; blankets; matches; jumper cables; cat litter; food/snacks; water; extra jackets/ sweaters; gloves/hats/scarves; emergency medications. *For those of you flying home, make sure that you have all of your paperwork in order to travel back (tickets, boarding pass, and if needed, a passport)*

5) Various necessities

Medications; toiletries; hair care products; beauty products

6) Holiday gifts

Because there are so many gift-giving holidays around this time of year, you have probably bought your family and friends back home a few gifts, do not forget these in your dorm room because you might not be able to go back and get them after you already left! *If you write out holiday cards, do not for get those either!)

With finals season winding down, there are many things going through your head, do not forget these important things on this list when traveling home to visit friends and family!

Good luck with FINALS and be safe going back home for the holiday season/ winter break!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
