6 Reasons Why Summer is Better Than Winter

Who doesn't love the summer??

6 Reasons Why Summer is Better Than Winter

Summer seems to always be everyone's favorite season. Despite the beauty of snow and a nice hot cup of coffee in the winter, summer brings with it three months of sunshine and happiness. It is almost a unanimous decision that summer beats out winter for the best time of the year. Seriously, who doesn't love summer? To help solidify an argument about the subject, here is a short list of just what exactly is better about the summertime.

1. The Weather (obviously)

There is nothing better than 80 degree weather, being able to wear shorts and tank tops, and having every window open. The warmer weather allows us to do so much more, like play whiffle ball, pass the football, or even just be outside. No one likes to do that when it’s below freezing.

2. There's No School

What’s not love about this?? Of course us college kids love the month we get off from school, but during the summer, you get to look forward to a new year instead of another semester.

3. There's No Snow

One of the best perks about summer compared to winter, is that there is no snow to shovel. No breaking backs, freezing outside for hours, having to deal with the snow blower that won’t start. Snow gets in the way for everyone and is an inconvenience too. Sure it looks pretty when it first falls, but it gets dirty and slushy, and it doesn’t look good anymore.

4. Beaches are Open

It’s pretty difficult to go swimming or lay out on the beach when it’s wicked cold outside. Summer screams “beach” and everyone looks forward to the perfect beach day: clear skies, light breeze, and lots of sun. The beach is good for everything- camping, tanning, swimming, you name it. Even just swimming in a pool is the epitome of summer when you can jump in to cool off or go night swimming.

5. Ice Cream

Ice cream is acceptable anytime during the year, but the best places are only open in the summer. There’s nothing like a chocolate swirl cone with rainbow sprinkles melting into your hands. Walking into the ice cream shop has a distinct smell, usually of waffle cones. Sometimes it takes a while to decide on what kind to get, but other times you can walk and order right away (that’s the best because you get your ice cream faster). There is no such thing as too much ice cream.

6. You Just Feel Better About Yourself

In the winter, everyone always feels gross. Everyone always says “I can’t wait for summer to feel better again”. You can get some color and not be pasty white. You’re happier because you get to be in the sun and weather is warm. You aren’t stressed and get to relax. You can catch up on your sleep. The days are longer so you become more productive. Everything about summer just makes you feel great.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
