Over the past few years, cable TV viewership has been dwindling due to the popularity of Netflix and other online streaming services. In the past year, cable TV’s viewership decreased by 12 percent. Instant streaming Netflix is a wonderful thing, but between those reruns of The Office there are cable shows that deserve your attention.
How to Get Away With Murder This show comes from the producer of Grey’s Anatomy so it is equally addicting and emotionally draining. The storyline follows a law professor, her students and many a scandal.
Parks and Recreation. Even though it is in its seventh and final season (seasons one through six are on Netflix) Parks has not lost its dry humor and characters that charm.
Scandal. Another addictive show from Grey’s creator, Shonda Rhimes. Sure, seasons one through three are on Netflix, but the current season is just as nail biting and shocking as the first. A show so good, Olivia Pope and company might consume your Thursday nights from now on. Sorry, Five Points.
The Bachelor. A Monday night guilty pleasure for most girls. The Bachelor is one of those shows that is so bad and so very cheesy that you cannot stop watching. With every season, the girls get crazier and we get more emotionally involved even though it never seems to work out.
The Mindy Project. Ever since The Office ended, I was searching for more of Mindy Kailing on TV. In 2012, The Mindy Project premiered and I have been hooked ever since. Mindy’s escapades and awkward run-ins keep me tuning in every Tuesday.
Vanderpump Rules. Thisd ultimate guilty pleasure comes from Bravo. It is one of those shows I don’t admit to anyone that I watch, yet I religiously flip to Bravo at 9 p.m. every Monday to watch. The endless drama, love triangles and awfully gaudy outfits is enough reel you in.
