Long Island, NY is a beautiful place that doesn't get the recognition it should. Living on the island for 18 years has made me really appreciate how good I have it. The summers spent at the beach and the winters spent in the snow were the best memories I could have made as a child. Splish Splash was a trip we made at least three times a summer. Let’s not get started on how delicious our pizzas and bagels are. They don’t call Long Island ‘Strong Island’ for no reason either. Although it gave me a 'funny' accent, I can argue anyone I know about why Long Island is the best place to live.
1. The beach is no more than 30 minutes away.
Jones Beach, Smithspoint, Montauk, you name them and we can be there. Summers are mostly spent laying on the beach tanning, and spending way too much money on food at the snack shacks.
2. The food.
Everyone knows Long Island has the best pizzas and bagels. Fresh pizza from Little Vincent's, or bagels from Strath are a must for anyone. Don't even get us started. We have more pizzerias and bagel shops then we have beaches.
3. We're just a train ride to the city.
A train ride to the city is less than an hour, and so convenient. Although most of the people on the train are extremely weird, and let's not even mention the drunk train.
4. Ralph's Italian Ices.
With ices, ice cream, shakes, and smoothies, you can't go wrong, it's also the best place to go after a beach day.
5. Sweet Sixteen's.
Teenagers all over Long Island get dressed up to spend hours dancing on dance floors and eating served foods. Because on LI the Sweet 16's are bigger and more extravagant then most weddings.
6. Some of the best restaurants in the world.
(Okay, so maybe not in the entire world, but pretty close) There's All American, Maureen's Kitchen, The Burger Spot, Se-port Deli, and some of the best bagel shops and pizzerias (Little Vinnies, Albertos, Ginos, Umbertos, just turn a corner in any town and you can find half a dozen).
6. Montauk.
At the end of the island there's Montauk. One of the best beaches to be at all times. Don't forget to take a picture by the lighthouse too!
7. We have all four seasons.
Sure, many other places have all four seasons, but not like LI does. And nothing beats our sunsets either, no matter the season.
8. The accent.
As soon as you leave the Island you will hear from many, many people that you talk weird. From water (warta) to dog(dawg) to drawer (draw). (But we don't talk weird, you do.)
Long Island is one of the best places to live, if you don't trust me then visit for a while and you'll fall in love.
