Question: What's something you see on almost every college campus? Answer: The signature look of ENO (Eagles Nest Outfitters) hammocks hanging between every tree possible. It seems like basically everyone has one, given how many you see hanging around. And why wouldn't you want one? They're probably one of the best inventions ever (in my opinion, of course). Hammocks are convenient, they're portable, they don't take a lot of skill to hang up, and you can chill for hours simply swinging in the breeze.
So, here is a list of reasons as to why hammocking is superior to just about most things.
1. It's good for the soul - Would you be upset if you were swaying back and forth in a giant cradle? I highly doubt it. It's basically impossible to be unhappy while relaxing in a hammock. It's like a constant hug, or it's like being enveloped in a pea pod, and that's pretty darn rad.
2. You can do it whenever - It's an all season type of activity. Just make sure to bundle up during the colder months, bring blankets, and hot coffee. You can also do it just about anywhere. Have you ever hung a hammock under your loft? I have, and it was wonderful. I would totally recommend.
3. It's easy - All you need are the tree straps and the hammock. Both are portable, pretty lightweight, and easy to carry around. It doesn't take much to hang it up either. Hammocking is pretty self explanatory, and you'll get better at finding good trees with time.
4. It's a great studying tool - If the dorms are too lit, or your roommate won't be quiet and the study rooms are taken, just grab your hammock and find a good place to hide away from the world. You'll get a lot done, and there is plenty of room for all your books and papers.
5. It's a great group activity - If you and your friends are bored, why not take your hammocks out to chill in the woods? Get creative. Find cool ways to hang your hammocks. Stack them -- but be cautious because this could go wrong really quickly.
6. Take in the surroundings - Hammocking is the best because you can be in the middle of nature, with breathtaking views, and still have a comfy seat to be in. It's a total win/win.
I hope by now, this list has convinced you to get a hammock, if you don't already have one. You'll thank yourself when you're gently swinging between trees, having the time of your life. All in all, hammocking is great because you get to take time out of life (which can get pretty hectic) and just be in the moment; and that's what's really important. It's good to get out of the normal routine every now and then.
