Even on our worst days there is always something to be thankful for. It's too easy to dwell on the things that don't really matter. While you are complaining about your house, your parents, your teachers, or whatever it is, people are wishing for those things. Someone else is praying for the things you are taking for granted. There are so many reasons to be thankful for every single day, but here are the most essential things, yet the things that are overlooked:
1. For waking up today
We go to sleep at night assuming we will wake up tomorrow to live another day, but that isn't always the case. While you are laying in bed groaning at your alarm, take a second to remind yourself that there are others who won't wake up and see another day.
2. For clean water
Having clean water readily available to us each day is taken for granted. We have water to bathe in and to drink right at our fingertips. While others walk miles to find clean water, or don't have any at all.
3. For the clothing you have
I am guilty of staring at a closet full of clothes and complaining that "I have nothing to wear." It's important to realize that so many people would feel blessed to have clothing, and you should too.
4. For having a place to live
Whether you're under your parents roof, or living with a roommate you cant stand in a tiny dorm room, you are more fortunate than many others.
5. For those fighting for our freedom
All across the world there are people that you've never met, and never will, that have lost their lives or are risking their lives for YOUR freedom and wellbeing. While you are with your loved ones, they are missing theirs to protect you.
6. For God
Although things seem unclear at times, we know that God has a plan for us. Everything will work out the way it is supposed to in the end.
In the midst of our hectic lives its too easy to forget how blessed we truly are. When you catch yourself complaining about the little things in life, quickly remember that you are more fortunate than the majority of the world.
