A Response: 6 Reasons Why Sorority Girls Do Have A Sense Of Style

Style is more than the clothes you wear, it's the confidence you carry in your shoulders and the way you own what you wear.

A Response: 6 Reasons Why Sorority Girls Do Have A Sense Of Style
Eastern Kentucky University Greek Life

To start, I would like to say that everyone has their own person sense of style and they should own it and love it. Personally, I love shopping and fashion. Although I don't get to shop often, I am the girl who will spend hours one Saturday a month going from store to store (as in Ross, Target, Macy's sales, etc. but still- I find some great deals and the cutest clothes).

I spend my days at school in leggings and t-shirts, but unless one sees me in my letters, they might not look at me and think I'm in a sorority. It's because society believes you have to "look" a certain way to be a "sorority girl". I have seen plenty of articles in favor of and against sororities, but recently, I saw an article that claimed sorority girls have no sense of style. I encourage you all to take a glance at that article and see the items listed. The most baffling part of the article is that the woman bashing sorority women for certain clothing items wears the exact same items.

So, here are 6 reasons why sorority women do have their own unique sense of style, contrary to popular belief.

1. They wear their letters with pride.

No matter where they are, they take pride in the letters ironed on across their chest.

2. They don't always need makeup to feel beautiful.

One of the greatest things my sisterhood has taught me is that I don't need to wear makeup to feel beautiful. I feel just as beautiful without makeup on as I do with it.

3. Themed events

You will never encounter anyone more creative than a sorority girl right before a themed social event. She can thrift, find a costume faster than you can blink, or throw together a couple of things in her closet like nobody's business.

4. Sometimes, they match.

There is nothing more exciting than wearing your favorite sorority t-shirt on campus and running into a sister who's wearing the same one. It lights your face up and makes your day. There's also nothing like walking into your house during recruitment and seeing everyone matching. It makes for some really precious photos and you create memories that will last forever. It's also a unique way to show unity.

5. Some of them wear designer and it's no big deal.

Some sorority women do wear designer clothes or own designer items. *gasp* But just because they do doesn't mean they are "rich", "spoiled", or "entitled". For instance, I am a working sorority woman, but I have a lot of Vera Bradley items because my family knows I love the brand and that's what I get for all of my birthdays and holidays. I pay all of my own bills and just because I own something doesn't mean that I am not a typical struggling college student.

6. They are confident.

No matter what they wear, sorority women are confident. They can strut in a beautiful evening gown for formal, walk into class with a messy bun and oversized shirt or match with their sisters during recruitment and still be as stylish as ever. So what if they keep up with the latest fashion trends or even start ones of their own? It's time to stop tearing down women for the clothes they wear.

To all the stylish sorority girls in my life, keep doing what you do.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
