6 Reasons I Pester My Content Creators
Julia Purretto

I know that being a content creator for Odyssey at times can be frustrating. As an editor-in-chief, we poke and prod at you (the content creator) to have the work done and in on time. It's only out of love and I will tell you why we do it from an editor's perspective.

1. I want our team to kick some serious ass.

The weekly call I have with my amazing managing editor is to talk about you. Our discussion always include how we think you can do better. We need you for this team to succeed. We need you so that as a whole, we can prove our community is a place worth talking about.

2. I know you have potential.

Yeah, that article you wrote last week that exceeded your expectation in shares? That will not be the only article you will write that will surprise you in shares. I know your worth and I know that you are talented. You may not believe you can pull magic from a hat and write a perfect article each week. However, once in a great while you will write something incredible. I am only here to help you get to that point.

3. I know together our group can create articles specific to our community.

It's hard sometime to think of a topic. However, that is why I keep in touch with all of you in the same group message. I want you all to feed off one another. Not every invention succeeded alone. We all need one another to push our limits.

4. The deadlines will help you in a future career.

Many times I feel like a pester and other times, like a teacher. I expect your articles to be turned in on time because we're all adults; so I am going to treat you like one. I chose you to be a part of this team and for whatever reason it was, in the end I expect you to be responsible about it.

5. We're kind of an awkward family.

We mostly only talk over email. However, we all have a passion for writing and voicing our opinion. You're all basically my soul mate, I just rarely see you in person.

6. I pester you because I know you can do it.

In the end, once your article is published you know that I, alone have read every single one of your articles. I am your biggest fan. When you write an aggressive article towards your ex, I think to myself, "Atta girl." When you write about science that I don't understand, I learn with you. When you write about falling in love, I do too. No matter your opinion or perspective, I will always have your back. You are a part of my team and I have high expectations from you. Why? Because I know you can do it.

You want to join our awkward family and be awesome on Odyssey too? Join us by going here and choosing "University of Montana Western" as the community. I promise, it's a lot of fun :)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
