The most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner and there are so many reasons to fall in love with this month! Here are a few why this happens to be my favorite time of the year.
1. Christmas Break. Must I elaborate? Christmas is and always has been the most wonderful time of the year. Spending time with family after being away at college for a semester is absolutely wonderful... and needed. This is one of the few times of the year when there is very little to worry about because there are no classes, unless of course you opted to take winter classes.
2. The first big snow. Which also means the annual cadet vs. civilian snow ball fight on the Drillfield. November brings us annoying sleet, but closer to Christmas break. If we are lucky, we see the first actual snow flakes fall, which gives us all the perfect excuse to stay in and bundle up and have a perfect lazy day... or battle cadets on the Drillfield.
3. Baking. Tis the season for cookies, cakes and fudge. These are usually baked on a daily basis during this entire month, and if not, they should. I know when I go home for break there is always a new sweet baked item on the counter.
4. Seasonal drinks. I know we all have our favorite drink of choice during the holidays. Whether its hot chocolate, a peppermint mocha, or a nice ale, these are the things that get us excited for Christmas. As soon as Starbucks changes their white cups to red, we all know Christmas is right around the corner.
5. Fashion. Peacoat, scarves and boots: all essential to survive a nice winter day in style. However, in the month of December and the following dreadfully cold months, it is acceptable to wear just about anything to stay warm. This may include huge sweaters and cable-knit scarfs and a warm pair bean boots.
6. Shopping. Whether it is for yourself, or a Christmas gift for someone else, this is easily one the best parts of this lovely month. People love to pack themselves in shopping malls trying to find the best sales. The day after Thanksgiving is when this starts for most people, then the smell of Christmas is really in the air. Finding great deals in a store or online is a satisfactory feeling that each of us probably love to have.
While this holiday month quickly approaches, don't forget to slow down and really enjoy it... well, after finals are over anyways.
