Oh, college. A time of excitement, exploration, and self-discovery. It's often referred to as "the beginning of the rest of your life". While that may be true, it can be tough. Though it has its highs (new friends, new experiences, new knowledge), it definitely has its lows. Here are my personal top six college lows.
1. Registration.
You make a plan, put all your classes into the system and hit register and the "full" message comes back. Why? Why do I have to email 15 professors and beg them to allow me to overload into their already-too-full classes? I need to take these classes. I need to graduate!
2. None of my mother's cooking.
There's that one point in the semester -- for me, it's the second week -- where I really miss my mom's food. And my mom. But, mostly, her food.
3. Reading.
A book every single week? It really does have to be some kind of sick joke. And sometimes SparkNotes doesn't cut it. Trust me, I've tried.
4. Communal bathrooms.
Shower shoes and probably less privacy than you'd like. But, hey, it's a great place to meet people? Maybe not.
5. Freshman 15.
Oh, it's real. And forcing yourself to walk to the gym everyday can be a struggle. Must. Maintain. A. Healthy. Lifestyle.
6. Being far from home.
Even if you commute, not being in your house and around your family all the time can be tricky. It's what you've known for 18 years, and it's hard to not be able to hug your dad and annoy your sisters whenever you want to.
Even though college can be tricky (not to be dramatic, but I really might die over the whole registration process), it truly is full of new and exciting experiences that I wouldn't trade for the world. Even when you think you can't get to the gym/share a shower/read another chapter, tell yourself that you can do it -- because you can, and it's worth it!
