6 Perks Of Being An Elementary Education Major
Education

Outside of the regular perks of studying in the field of your choice, like learning about things that you care about and preparing for your dream job. Here are a few things that make being an education major just a little bit sweeter.

1. Your major classes are taught by professional educators.

Not only do you learn the content of the class from them, but you also learn a lot about teaching just by watching them teach you. They are up on the research about what makes for the best learning environment, and you get the benefit of having professors who are experts on their content and experts on how to get it across to you.

2. Everyone else is just as excited about school supplies as you are!

And having well-cultivated Pinterest boards and a large collection of flats and cardigans is considered admirable, not nerdy!

3. Traditional tests are few and far between.

Instead of a typical final exams, you’ll probably just have to present your lesson plan as though you are teaching it to the class while the rest of the class pretends to be second graders. Don’t worry- you’ll still spend hours preparing for it as you make sure to incorporate a variety of learning styles, give meaningful assessments, and hit those state standards!

4. Your homework often involves crayons and construction paper.

Whether it’s creating a poster about adjectives, making a math game to reinforce multiplication facts, or teaching a mock lesson about planets, you’ll need these supplies to get the job done.

5. Your professors are really nice.

They have been known to bring you Halloween candy and read inspirational picture books on the last day of class. While the independence that comes with being a college student is great, getting an occasional “you can do it!” and “I care about you as a person!” is really appreciated. File these nice things away so that you can do them for your future students, too!

6. Pretty much everything you learn in your classes is directly applicable to your future.

You never know what situations will come up in your future classrooms, so it’s best to be prepared with as much information as possible. But even when it doesn’t end up being directly applicable, most education majors don’t mind since we like learning just to learn.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
