A while ago on Netflix, I started the series "The Carrie Diaries." I had never even watched "Sex and the City, but decided to watch the series anyways. I instantly became hooked. To my disappointment, the show was cancelled after two seasons. But it’s still 100% worth it to watch both seasons… But as a warning, you will become BEYOND depressed and empty when you finish the series! The main character- Carrie Bradshaw is now one of my all-time favorite fictional characters. The series follows Carrie as a high schooler experiencing typical teenage obstacles- while watching her break into the fashion and magazine industry interning in New York City… So awesome! Right? Here are the top 6 biggest lessons I learned from Carrie Bradshaw herself!
1. Follow your dreams, no matter what everyone else wants you to do.
Carrie leaves her original internship her father set up for her at a law firm in order to pursue her career in journalism and fashion. She also decides not to attend NYU or any college, but instead continue at Interview Magazine. She's confident in what she wants, and doesn't let the pressure others put on her to pursue a different path stop her from following her dreams! That takes some serious guts!
2. Sometimes the best decisions are the ones that are the hardest to make.
Carrie had the kind of strength and self confidence everyone dreams of having. She never allowed herself to settle for less than she deserved. She was mature enough to realize when something or someone wasn't good for her, she had to let go- no matter how hard it would be.
3. Never settle for anyone less than Sebastian Kydd.
SEBASTIAN KYDD IS LITERALLY PERFECTION! Carrie won the heart of the class bad boy... who's not to mention so attractive! Carrie and Sebastian had their fair share of problems, but always seemed to get through them. They cared for each other more than anything, and set the perfect example for relationship goals. Sebastian adored her, and would always be there for her in the end. She taught us all to never settle for anyone less than a Sebastian Kydd.
4. Don't beat yourself up over past mistakes... Stay positive!
Carrie was always one of the most bubbly and happy people! She never seemed to beat herself up over her mistakes... She simply just learned from them! She truly recognized that she would only be young once. She let loose and made sure to have plenty of fun. Through it all, she remained super positive, always looking on the bright side of situations! Don't we all wish we could be this way?
5. Have confidence in yourself- looking your best.
Carrie Bradshaw was extremely bold with her style- always looking 100%! She had so much confidence in herself, and wasn't afraid to take risks. Everyone went to her for fashion advice and knew she would know what she was talking about. I know most of us wish we could totally steal her girly and bright wardrobe!
6. There's nothing wrong with being the nice girl.
Carrie's smile was contagious! She always went out of her way to make everyone happy. She made sure to treat everyone with respect and always be kind. She taught viewers that there's nothing wrong with being the nice girl... and that it can actually get you a long way!
Young Carrie Bradshaw was a total icon! Everyone can learn so much from her as a person. If you haven't gotten a chance to check out "The Carrie Diaries" yet- please do! The show is a must-see with plenty of tears, smiles, and just about every emotion that's possible to feel. Even though Carrie stands out the most to me, just about all of the characters have so much depth, and demonstrate many life lessons to be learned throughout your teens and early twenties years!
