On June 30th, it marks the ten year anniversary since Meryl Streep played Editor-in-Chief Miranda Priestly, who everyone feared in The Devil Wears Prada. This movie has taught us many life lessons, as well as brought us iconic lines in the past decade that we still cannot stop quoting, giving further proof Meryl Streep really is queen.
1. Florals for spring are never groundbreaking.
Of course not; everyone expects florals in the spring, but the way Streep delivered this is as memorable as they come.
2. Always be yourself.
Andy slowly let the fashion industry change her. At first it was just her clothes, but soon her personality changed too, resulting in her losing her friends and boyfriend. In the end, when Miranda told Andy she reminded her of a younger version of herself was when she realized this was not the real her.
3. Never forget your friends and family.
Andy neglected her own allies when she started succeeding at work and they were there supporting her when she needed it. They took her back by the end of the movie, but it taught us to always keep the people who love you close.
4. Everyone could use a little Chanel.
Nigel is dead on with this one. Most things in life can be fixed by adding a little Chanel touch.
5. You have to work hard to get where you want to be.
Getting the job that "a million girls would kill for" is not always as fortuitous as it seems. Andy is told if she works for Miranda for a year, she can get a job anywhere, but in the end we see it's not always worth the year.
6. Dieting isn't always worth it.
Emily starved herself down so she could look amazing for her trip to Paris with Miranda. Miranda then kicks her off the trip and she gets hit by a cab realizing that carbs are not so bad after all.
