Our house of six has a puppy that is a Great Dane and Black Lab mix and here are a few things we deal with.
1. Girls love our dog
If we are having a party or have a bunch of friends over and someone says we have a dog, the conversation normally goes like this:
“Dog!”
“You have a dog?”
“I want to see him!”
“Can we see him?”
2. Too much energy
Every time I see Gunner I always think he just did a line of cocaine. Consistently moving, jumping around, and he never stays in one place. Granted he is a year old and still a puppy but never the less with six guys in college always in and out of the house, taking care of him can be hard. The dude has no chill, when everyone is watching TV at night, Gunner will still be jumping around and running in circles.
3. Not enough attention
Word to the wise, if you ever decide to get a dog make sure you can give it enough attention. Although there are six guys in the house, Gunner still does not always get the most adequate attention he deserves. We each have our own stuff going on and cannot always be taking care of a dog.
4. Make sure all roommates agree on getting a dog
I arrived back from summer break, having no idea we even had a dog. Only the guys living there over the summer knew. One of our roommates just came back with a dog one day. This caused some disagreements and arguments within us and sometimes wish we never had this dog.
5. They are pretty sweet
Even though he can be a pain in the ass sometimes, having a dog is awesome. If there is ever a bad day or just want to amuse myself, Gunner could always cheer me up. It is like living with a little kid, most of the time they just infuriate but then one silly harmless mistake and you cannot help but to love them.
6. Fun to play with
Gunner has so much energy and joy I can come home from class and just get him all excited. Playing tug of war or anything can be a blast with him.
