Growing up listening to country music meant I heard a lot of love songs. Some better than others. But the good ones started to become how I thought relationships looked. And listening to these songs since such a young age started to give me expectations. Always hearing guys sing about the girls they love makes you want that in your life. Country songs sing about an old school type of love that I wanted. And I blame country songs for the high (and, at times, unrealistic) expectations I have regarding relationships.
“Our Song” Taylor Swift
Man in the fifth grade, this song set the bar real high. This is how I imagined being in a relationship in high school was. Boy was I wrong. But, hey, "talking" is essentially the same thing, right?
“Don’t Take The Girl” Tim McGraw
I grew up listening to this song. This is one of the songs that set the bar for my relationship expectations. Little 7-year-old me could only relate to the beginning of the song, because cooties were still big at that time for me. But as I grew up, the song started to resonate more and more. Just an overall great love song.
“Woman Like You” Lee Brice
I personally think this a such a great song. Lee Brice doesn’t just sing about how great his life would be with her in his life. He sings about how his life would be different with her gone (in some cases better). But at the end of the day, he would still be looking for her. I think its great that he acknowledges that his life could be better without her in it, but she is truly still what he wants in life. And, honestly, I want some one who still wants me in their life even if some aspects of it would potentially be better without me.
“In Case You Didn’t Know” Brett Young
This song is a little newer, but it is still great. Nowadays, I feel as though guys have a rough time expressing themselves. This song is all about a guy expressing his feelings at once and reassuring his girl that she is the one. And that is honestly all I could ask for in a relationship.
“H.O.L.Y” Florida Georgia Line
I mean, obviously. I want a guy to feel high while we are together and that I’m one of the best parts of my life. But ultimately, it makes and reminds me of how single I actually am. Still going to listen to it constantly, though. Don't get me wrong.
“Die a Happy Man” Thomas Rhett
Obviously, again. What girl doesn’t want to hear that she is the greatest thing to ever walk into someone’s life? And that she is just as good (no, better) than seeing the Eiffel Tower at night? I know I sure do.
