Halloween has two sides, cute and scary. The suspenseful, terrifying R-rated stuff is not for everybody. This is a list of a few festive Halloween flicks that people who aren’t fond of horror… but want to get into the Halloween spirit can check out.

Links to movie trailers under each description.

1. The Addams Family (1991)

This is a live-action movie that follows the infamous Addams family. If you are looking for funny rather than scary, you should check this one out. As for the plot… Lets just say that Uncle Fester isn’t who he says he is.

2. R.L. Stine’s Monsterville: Cabinet of Souls (2015)

This movie follows a group of teens who live in a small town where a carnival has come right in time for Halloween along with The Hall of Horrors….. that is not what it seems. Anything R.L. Stine in general is perfect to watch if you just aren’t feeling an R-rated horror movie.

3. Sleepy Hollow (1999)

This is probably the scariest movie on this list, but compared to any other horror movies out there, this one doesn’t fit nearly as high on the scare meter. There are some gory scenes and suspenseful moments, but this movie is also comical…. I mean Johnny Depp is in it.Who doesn’t love a movie with young Johnny Depp?

4. Hocus Pocus (1993)

A Halloween classic that’s also family friendly, Hocus Pocus is the definition of an authentic Halloween movie. For those who haven’t heard of it, the plot revolves around three witches coming back from the dead because a virgin lit a special candle. If you are not of fan of scary movies, but still want to get into the Halloween spirit, Hocus Pocus is the way to go.

5. Lady in White (1988)

Not everyone might be familiar with this one, but to give a short summary of the plot, a boy gets locked in a cloakroom at his school by some mischevious classmates on Halloween night, and he sees the ghost of a little girl……. I wont spoil it anymore, but lets just say this is a good mystery movie and the ending will make your mouth drop. (But not because you’re overcome with fear.)

    6. Anything Disney!

Halloweentown, Twitches, Haunted Mansion, Tower of Terror, Mostly Ghostly. (The list is endless) Disney Channel is known for its kid-friendly Halloween movies and there is no shame in watching these. Not only will these Disney movies take you back to your childhood, they will also guarantee authentic Halloween vibes minus the scary.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
