With finals creeping up on us, students around campus are scrambling to get all of their shit done. Procrastination will be at its heightened form and the only solution is a bomb study place. Even though MSU is a huge campus with over 500 buildings, we all know each and every study spot possible will be filled to the brim. With that being said, Michigan State students have six classic study spots, and if you can find a table at one of these, it’s almost guaranteed you’ll get every single thing you procrastinated done.
- Women’s Lounge in Union: Sorry boys, this place is off limits for you. On the other hand, for us girls, this study lounge is magical. This isn’t the place for those who like to make noise, it’s so quiet you can hear a pin drop. It’s the perfect place to finish up (or start) an essay, take a nap (very common in this lounge) or pull an all-nighter.
- Espresso Royale: It’s your lucky day if you can find a table in this joint. And when you do, you better plan on staying there the whole day. I don’t know what it is about coffee shops, but productivity raises at record speed the moment you start doing work.
- The West Wing 2nd Floor or basement of the Library: The West Wing 2nd floor area not only has single tables with the dividers, but also the most beautiful views of campus and the Beaumont tower if you can get a seat by the window. The basement, on the other hand, is not a popular place in the library which may work in your favor especially during finals week when it’s impossible to find seats on every other floor.
- The Back of the Landon Cafe during “off” hours: Off hours, as in anything besides dinner (past 5 p.m.), are when the caf gets way too hectic. Landon is great for studiers who like to have an unlimited supply of coffee and snacks. If you go all the way to the top and in the back, it’s usually pretty empty.
- MSU Hillel: Open 24 hours a week with free snacks and coffee. The catch? It’s crazy busy and may be hard for you to claim a table.
- Business Library: Unlike the Law Library, no passes are needed during finals week which is quite the blessing. It’s also a lot less busy than the regular library, making it a prime spot to start your cram session.
Good luck to all my fellow Spartans during finals. Always remember, Spartans Will.
