5 Things I Learned From My First Job Interview

Whether you are low on money and want to work for more, or you are a college graduate and looking for a job, there is much to know about the job application process and getting hired. First off, it is a lengthy process. For certain jobs, you need to hold certain qualifications for a position. I recently had my first job interview last week, and I learned five tips of the trade that could easily help anyone tackle their first ever job interview.

1. Some of the questions that will be asked will probably come from your application.

Depending on the job that you applied for, they will probably be looking at your application for a majority of the questions. If you're applying for a part-time job like I did, it probably does not have many qualifications so they just want some elaboration on your past experiences.

2. It's okay to be nervous.

Everyone is nervous for their first interview. It's not a big deal, it may seem scary but once you settle into the interview, you'll be relaxed and won't be worrying at all!

3. Be confident and smile.

The person, or people, interviewing you probably wouldn't hire someone who doesn't smile or carry themselves right. Even if you're nervous, just give a small smile. Just don't seem creepy.

4. Dress appropriately.

Even if you're not going to an interview for a large, corporate company, you should still dress nice. If you're interviewing for a part-time job, dress modestly. You don't want to dress fancy, but wear at least a nice pair of jeans and shirt. If your interview is for your career (i.e. after college, or grad school), the best way to dress is to wear dark colors and seem clean. After all, everyone knows the saying: Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.

5. Bring in the necessary items if the interview(er) requires it.

Some things that the interview may require for you to bring would be your resumé, some type of photo ID or even your social security card. If the interview doesn't require anything, it would still be a good idea to bring in your resumé or samples of work. Sometimes bringing samples of your work could give you a boost at getting the job.

Once my interview was over, I was relieved and you will be too. The interview may seem scary, but it really isn't! And the five tips that I learned from my first interview will definitely help you get your job. Good luck!!

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
