Moving in is a stressful time and sometimes it's easy to forget important things so I compiled a list of the most forgotten or least thought about things when you are moving in.
1. Cleaning supplies
You will have to clean your own room and maybe even a bathroom, so cleaning supplies are a must. I brought Clorox wipes, magic erasers, a toilet brush, paper towels, trash bags, and a shower cleaner. I didn’t bring a vacuum but my friends down the hall had a small portable one that I would recommend for you to bring if no one else has one. You don’t want to live in a disgusting room so please clean it.
2. First aid and Medicine
It is very helpful to already have Band-Aids and cold medicine if you need it so go ahead and come prepared. I managed to avoid getting really sick all together but most aren’t as lucky, you will probably catch a cold.
3. Water filter and bottles
For me, I didn’t like the taste of tap water after drinking well water my whole life so a filter helped with that. I also use reusable bottles all the time. I hate wasting plastic bottles and it’s a pain to find somewhere to store the big cases of bottled water.
4. School supplies
You are there to go to school so don’t forget to bring what you need for class. I normally take notes on my laptop and put loose sheets/ handouts in a folder, but some professors don’t all computers in class so bring a few notebooks. I also wait until after the first day to buy my books because you may not actually need all the ones that are on the required list.
5. A sleep mask
A sleeping mask was the best idea ever. I used mine all the time to take naps during the day when it was still bright outside.
I'm not a college expert by any means, but I have lived in a dorm and know the struggle of finding out what is worth the space and what isn't. Don't stress if you do forget something like cleaning supplies (I'm serious, clean your room) it's not hard to grabs some friends and take a quick trip to the store.
