An Event to Remember: ECU Phi Gamma Delta's 5th Annual Day Jam

Phi Gamma Delta Pi Nu chapter at East Carolina University hosted their 5th Annual Day Jam on October 12, 2019 at Pantana Bobs in Greenville, N.C.

Eric Woodruff started Day Jam back in 2015 with the original purpose to benefit Phi Gamma Delta's national philanthropy: United Service Organizations. Different bands throughout the years have provided live music. Each year, the turn out has been larger than the year before.

On April 12, 2019, the Pi Nu chapter lost a brother in a fatal car wreck. If you ever had the opportunity to meet Beau Stanley, you knew he was someone so special. Beau encompassed the true characteristics of a friend, brother, and someone you could never forget. He was giving to others, lit up every room he walked into and was always able to put a smile on someone's face and make them laugh. During this time, the ECU community came together and supported one another like never before. The amount of love shown was remarkable.

This year's Day Jam hit closer to home for not only Phi Gamma Delta but the ECU community as a whole. The date chosen was six months after Beau's passing and the proceeds raised would go towards the James Beau Stanley Scholarship.

Tucker Robbins, president of Phi Gamma Delta's Pi Nu chapter, said "The Scholarship was a decision that the Pi Nu chapter made to ensure the life of our brother Beau lives on in the ECU community. With the help of his mother, and the ECU scholarship office, we were able to create the scholarship in his honor." Phi Gamma Delta's 5thannual Day Jam raised $2500 in proceeds to be donated to the James Beau Stanley Scholarship.

From 1 pm – 8 pm, Pantana Bobs and Phi Gamma Delta had over 600 people attend. The amount of love and smiles on everyone's faces made this event mean so much to everyone at ECU. Being able to not only grieve but celebrate the life of Beau together as friends and family was an amazing feeling that I will never forget. "The atmosphere, hospitality, and overall morale of the event were beyond words description. I know in my heart that the event was everything Beau would have wanted and more" said Robbins.

Ben Costner, a childhood friend, and brother of Beau said, "Day Jam shows the truly great time Greenville is known for. It's an environment you don't see often, and I am personally very glad to be a part of it, especially for Beau and Shea." Day Jam this year was an event for the ECU community to cherish and remember forever.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
