Facebook, it’s more than just a place to look at your friend’s bar pictures and ignore your grandmother’s Trump posts. Even though you probably liked 1,000 “Like this if you X” pages when you were 15 that know appear in your Tinder common interests, Facebook culture has evolved into a mixture of “weird Facebook,” an underground, bizarre collection of meme and leftist culture commentary pages, and wholesome, genuinely funny and interesting pages that produce great content concerning politics, culture, and doggos. Here are 5 Facebook pages that will drastically improve your feed.
1. Son of Baldwin
Son of Baldwin is an excellent resource for anyone who is interested in intersectionalities between race, gender, sexuality, and class in society. Writing based on the works of the great civil rights scholar James Baldwin, Son on Baldwin explores institutional racism, our biased pro-white culture, and dares to point out flaws in modern liberalism and social justice movements, aiming towards creating more inclusive spaces free from prejudice towards all persons. Besides writing great articles for Mic, Son of Baldwin also shares great articles from fellow scholars that give perspectives on a variety of current news topics. This is a great resource for those who wish to be socially active and support communities they themselves are not a part of.
2. ShitpostBot 5000
ShitpostBot 5000 is not a person, but rather a computer program that uploads a meme of a randomly selected template and image combined with said template, and does so every 30 minutes. These posts are without context, and often serve as a commentary on the current trends within internet memes and the popularity of certain templates. There is something absolutely hilarious about a computer posting a randomly generated image that you can relate to, and more than often than not, the posts are a hit. You can even upload your own templates and images for the program to try out. Fun for the whole family.
3. Bork Bork You are Doing Me A Frighten
Stupid pcitures of dogs with captions full of purposefully bad grammar and titles. That’s about it. This page is pretty much the best that the “doggo/pupper” dog meme trend has to offer, and regularly delivers funny as hell content and a myriad of good doggos.
4. Super Deluxe
Super Deluxe is a satirical blogging and video site and Facebook page that is part Clickhole, part Buzzfeed, and part The Onion. There is some serious reporting going on with stories about the people behind viral videos and memes, but there is also stuff like a video of an actor playing Hillary Clinton calling herself the “meme queen,” and Tim from Tim and Eric exploring the DNC national convention. Super Deluxe is currently some of my favorite content, from Joanne the Scammer to Pokemon Go!: Live. Like this page if you absurdist/cringe humor.
5. Extra Fabulous Comics
Literally the funniest online comic strip in the known universe. Featuring a mixture of color and black and white comics, Extra Fabulous Comics continues to make me laugh in public with a mixture of puns, wordplay, and deadpan facial expressions. The creator has his pulse on what makes absurdism and dick jokes funny, and produces content so stupid it’s hilarious. Also they make for great cover photos.
