Move-in day is just around the corner; summer's great and all but I think I speak for every EIU student when I say we need to get back to the Chuck right. Freakin’. Now.
- It’s a state university with a small college atmosphere.
- Large variety of courses available and smaller class sizes.
- You feel more like a student rather than a number in your classes.
- Always seeing familiar faces in your classes and around campus.
- Students look forward to going back to school.
- You make plans for opening weekend weeks before you even return.
- You had a countdown set for the day you return to EIU before you even left.
- You’re not officially an EIU student until you order Chubby’s.
- Chubby’s sticks, with all the sauces, speaks to the soul.
- You hate yourself the next day for ordering it but you’ll never stop because, well, it's Chubby's.
- Bamca, better than Chipotle or not, it's still damn good.
- And Bamca has queso.
- There are numerous job opportunities on and off campus.
- And many volunteer opportunities to give back to the community.
- “Campus Community” No matter what group you belong to (clubs, athletics, Greek life, etc.) there's a sense of unity and support from everyone involved.
- The bars are open later than the library.
- Certain songs will always remind you of life at EIU.
- “Closing Time” will always remind you of Ike’s.
- Stu’s, Stu’s, Stu’s.
- Grilled cheese Wednesdays in Taylor are the best part of your Wednesday.
- Besides Ladies' Nights.
- Karaoke night at Penalty Box.
- P box wings.
- Milkshakes and mac n’ cheese bites from the union.
- 4 O’clock Club is the best club to be in.
- The squirrels on campus are almost as crazy as the students.
- Beer breakfasts.
- Going out in a dress and heels is just as acceptable as going out in an oversized flannel, trucker hat, and fanny pack.
- Fanny packs are always appreciated.
- Raining? Plan on swimming to class because the campus probably flooded.
- Not raining? Sorority girls are still wearing their rain jackets.
- Competitive intramural.
- The competitiveness, loyalty, and encouragement fraternities and sororities have for one another.
- (Many) professors want to see you succeed and help you in any way they can.
- Personal professor-student connections.
- You never have to buy your textbooks.
- You don’t have to walk a mile just to get to class.
- Your longest walk to class is, at most, 15 minutes.
- When Jimmy John’s employees handout free sandwiches on campus= Best. Day. Ever.
- When Jimmy John’s employees show up to parties to handout free sandwiches= *cries* automatically your favorite person
- Jimmy John’s is basically a staple of your diet.
- Sunday Funday.
- Tugs is taken more seriously than some classes.
- For just $2 you can get a ride on the drunk bus driven by the one and only, Marsha (bless her soul).
- There are more liquor stores than grocery stores in Charleston.
- Knowing the code into the Marty’s apartments even though you don’t live there.
- Creepy weekends are some of the best weekends.
- Snowy day? Pissed your professors didn’t cancel class.
- Blizzard? Still makes it to the bars.
- Memories made here, whether they make you laugh, cry, or both, will be memories you’ll always remember.
- The friendships made with floor mates, classmates, teammates, members of your fraternity or sorority, and randoms you met in the bathroom.
- Your time at Eastern Illinois you’ll hold on to and remember for the rest of your life.
No matter if you’re an independent, Greek, or athlete you could write a book on all the reasons why you love EIU. There's no denying it, EIU is your home. See you August 20, Charleston.
