51 Thoughts I Had While Watching Netflix's 'To The Bone'

*Some of these thoughts are sassy, some are sarcastic, some are random, but a lot are commenting on society as well as the movie*

1. Ok. Putting a thin girl in expensive and trendy clothes is no different than a clothing campaign. This isn't showing me how terrible anorexia is, it's showing me how good I would look if I were thin.

2. Mom! Don't take pictures of a girl struggling with anorexia! You're probing at her deepest insecurity. Of course she doesn't think she's beautiful. When you get that skinny it isn't about looks anymore.

3. YES mom, we get that it's hard on you. But her anorexia isn't about you.

4. Ellen's hair would not be that full and beautiful. It would be thin, falling-out, and ragged.

5. There is a scene where she is standing in a bright beautiful kitchen at breakfast. Everything is happy colors, when she's in dark clothing. Excellent contrast. She probably feels that way too.

6. Good job showing Ellen measure her arms by wrapping her thumb and middle finger around it. It shows her obsessive side and how she will never feel skinny enough.

7. She has puffy eyes. That is a good thing to show. When you are anorexic you are not healthy. Puffy eyes is a good way to show that.

8. One parent is over bearing while another is abandoning. Shows that both ends of the spectrum can cause issues in kids, and how both parents drive Ellen further into herself.

9. She smokes too!!? This poor girl!!!

10. She's an artist? That's a little cliche but let's see where this goes.

11. When she meets with the doctor she looks so pretty. She should NOT look pretty at all. She is dying. Hence why she is at the doctor.

12. Good job, Doctor. You're calling her out on her crap. At her stage in anorexia, sometimes harsh love is what you need.

13. The mom is trying. Give her some credit.

14. The doctor said "You scare people. And you like it." That's a good point. Anorexia isn't always about wanting to look thin. It's so much deeper than that.

15. Oh. There's a boy. Because you can't have a teenager-based movie without a love interest.

16. YAS DONA FROM PARKS AND REC YOU GO GIRL

17. During family group therapy she can fit inside the chair. Poor girl.

18. Therapist says "It's not about thin enough." YAS! So true! there are so many other factors for both starting and continuing in anorexia.

19. Ok why is everyone so fashionable??? This is a movie about anorexia, not a fashion show!

20. Lucas you're annoying.

21. Having an overweight woman run the house while the Doctor's away is SO IMPORTANT. It shows you can be a beautiful person inside and out even if you're not skinny.

22. The only overweight patient in the house is a binge eater. Because you can't be overweight and anorexic, right? WRONG. Have an open mind, people.

23. Why isn't there a movie on binge eating?

24. The sister was EXCELLENTLY cast. She is skinny, yes, but in a healthy way.

25. During group therapy she looks like she's dying. That's a more accurate way of depicting someone at her stage in anorexia. Tired, and fading fast.

26. This movie addresses the issue of promoting thinness with artwork.

27. Ellen, it's not your fault that girl killed herself.

28. "It isn't your life. It's everyone's" YES

29. "Think about someone other than me for once" No, Ellen. People are reaching out to help you. You need to let them help you. It isn't a burden for them.

30. The baggy clothes that Ellen wears are both an accurate representation of those with anorexia, and don't promote her thin body.

31. Did Lily Collins lose the weight or is it computer generated?

32. Ok so Ellen and Lucas are dating now. (Huge shocker there)

33. Ok but you don't need a guy to fix your problems.

34. If you're going to put an anorexic girl in fashionable clothes, don't put her in a style that only skinny girls can pull off.

35. Underage drinking is not cool stop promoting that

36. Ellen is changing the more she hangs out with Lucas. I can't tell if it's for good or for bad.

37. HONEY YOU HAVE AFRICAN AMERICAN HAIR WHY ARE YOU WALKING IN THE RAIN

38. Wow. Her backstory is so sad. Poor Ellen.

39. Ok but people can have an eating disorder even if they weren't abused. There are many people who don't seek help because they don't have a specific reason to trace their issue back to.

40. Just because is isn't life or death does not mean you don't have an issue. This movie starts off with Ellen being near the verge of death. There are people who still look and act healthy, and still have clear signs of anorexia. But because media only documents those who are close to death, a lot of people miss these signs simply because they don't 'look' anorexic.

41. Ellen has become so skinny she looks like the drawing she posted on Tumblr.

42. No one would say "You need to eat" to someone struggling with anorexia who was still heavy. It's almost like people let you have anorexia until you get to a certain weight, then they beg you to stop because it's getting "unhealthy." As if it hasn't been unhealthy the whole time.

43. Your parents are trying, Ellen.

44. The mom wants to what now?

45. Feed her rice milk like she's a baby through a bottle?

46. Don't walk away mom, don't give up on her

47. Ellen asked for help!

48. See deep down she's been asking for help the whole time. People were just offering the wrong kind of help.

49. I'm not crying, you're crying.

50. In times like these you just need a lot of unconditional love.

51. I feel both emotional and empowered.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
