500 words on Social Media's problems

Social media is an incredible tool but with all good things comes annoying little issues with the people who use them.

500 words on Social Media's problems

A 15 tweet or a two paragraph Facebook rant about some event you saw makes you feel so much better about yourself for some reason. You think you’re making a difference with what you’re typing up on your phone and maybe you’ll change the world off of it. Here’s the truth, your social media is not as powerful or as important as you seem to think. Calling out that guy on Twitter really do anything at all but make you look stupid. Twitter has made you think you’re some social media dark knight and that’s the problem.

Social media is an amazing thing. It has the power to really let people vent, spread news, or simply make people happy for a couple of seconds. Facebook was made to help college students connect and Twitter was made to let people speak their mind in 140 characters or less, great ideas. Like any great idea people just made parts of it awful and annoying. The world of Twitter has now turned into long and pointless rants and recycled tweets. It has begun to make people think they are more powerful than they are and really let uneducated people think they know what they are talking about when they have absolutely no clue.

You see a post on Facebook with a bunch of words that make you think how amazing or awful this event was and so informative. You share the article and everyone is amazed. People start debating about whatever it said and somebody probably makes someone else mad. The best part though? There’s a really good chance that whatever the picture said was probably completely false but all it took was a couple of shares and over half your friends believed Barack Obama is an alien from Mars taking over our planet. What went from a website meant to help people connect is now helping ignorant people make other ignorant people more ignorant.

There this girl is on Twitter. She’s going on a rant about the Black Lives Matter movement, an important movement by the way, and people are really getting behind her. She’s making people think she knows so much stuff and really is making a difference but here’s the reason she’s just spitting nonsense. Outside of her phone and Twitter she really isn’t doing anything for the movement at all. She just wants to make her 867 followers think she gives two cares about the world when she really doesn’t. Because of a few retweets the wrong people are getting attention and causing a movement to gain no traction at all.

Social media is an amazing tool for our world. It lets people connect with other people and can spread news at a superb rate. Like any good thing in the world things can have annoying parts to it. When on social media check your facts and make sure what you’re sharing has some substance to it. Don’t make people into social media stars when there are more deserving people this world to be made famous and important. Just give everything a second thought.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
