When growing up, children tend to find characters on television shows they watch to act as their role models besides their family members. It is an important part of a child's growth and development. For girls, it can be hard to find a female icon. For me, I found the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" television series, and Buffy Summers became the person I look up to.

Buffy is the best choice for a girl's role model because she represents characteristics not commonly found in the usual stereotypical female character such as bravery, determination and strength. These are certainly some important personality traits that most girls miss out on learning when they grow up because it is generally aimed towards boys. Girls can be just as strong and just as determined or brave as any boy, and Buffy is the perfect TV character to teach this.

As well as those characteristics, Buffy also demonstrates that women can feel vulnerability as well as control in their own life. She teaches us this by showing her emotions when she feels the need to and then by reclaiming her title as a strong, confident character by overcoming whatever struggle she had been facing with dignity and grace. Buffy is not the cliché woman character that is the stereotypical depiction found on many other TV shows. She is much more of a balanced character with a dash of sarcasm to make her the perfect relatable character, too. She has her dainty and emotional characteristics as well as her strength and characteristics like intellect and courage, which balances out her personality into the perfect role model for girls.

Buffy fights the evils in the TV show, which makes her the perfect superhero-type idol for little girls to look up to and tell their parents they want to aspire to be. She depicts the confidence that every little girl should come to learn as she grows up. You follow Buffy's life from a 16-year-old to a grown woman with her little sister to look out for as she fights the evil demons and darkness that surrounds her. Every girl should have a chance to look up to Buffy Summers because of her superiority to other female characters in other shows, who seem shallow and less realistic. Buffy, however, is a realistic girl with feelings and a strong backbone who refuses to give in and let the evil win - all girls should have this mindset. She will kick the bad guy's butt and show everyone, yet again, that she is the all-time female superhero every girl should have as a role model.
