Ever since I was a girl, I have been fascinated with nature. I grew up running wild and barefoot across many acres of land, making mud pies, splashing in the water puddles, and creating things out of sticks and leaves. I made friends with the trees and followed the sun until it finally set in the evening, meaning it was time to say goodbye until tomorrow. I fell in love with the way birds sing and the sweet scent of a flower. Over time, I eventually became curious about how intelligently designed all it was. It has given me something I actually have a hard time explaining.
I have come to find that nature is more than what we see. We can visibly see the stars, sun, moon, trees, flowers, etc. but there’s so much more to all creation. What most of us miss is the intelligent design that makes it all up. We forget that it’s bigger than man, stronger than man, somewhat related to man, and so very much alive. Nature gives me a chance to see what my God creates and glimpse at what He is capable of. I see his power and beauty when I allow my eyes to really appreciate when I see it from the inside, rather than just see it from the outside.
Just as the Psalmist says, "What is man, that thou art mindful of him?" We can breathe in it's purity but we know that God cares much more for man than anything in nature. King David wrote this acknowledging God's sovereignty when he looked out at earth's beauty. We can look upon the sun and know that God created it but still see's something more in us. God also tells us that even if we never hear the Word of God, we are still held accountable because we should see God when we look at creation.
I am addicted to the way that when I go sit in the woods I become overwhelmingly cleansed with a true peace. This peace is like anything that I have ever known. I love being able to focus on something else rather than myself at times. Instead, I am able to look at the simple, non-worried life of all of nature. The trees are not afraid of falling over when the wind blows, and the birds are not afraid of finding food for tomorrow. When I look at all of the nature that surrounds me, it inspires me to stop worrying and remember there is something bigger than me that will take care of it all.
Nature is definitely a blessing from above that I am so thankful for. It is my home and my safe haven. It is my friend when I feel lonely and it has also been a place where I can find true peace. Nature is my way of seeing a glimpse of my creator.
