Summer as a college student is kind of weird. You go away and you get to experience and live your life all on your own -- its almost surreal as if you were watching TV show.
You are graced with freedom to go to bed whenever you want, go out whenever you want, eat whatever you want, and be whoever you want to be. You are the boss; you make all the rules. Overall it is quite a freeing and life changing time.
Then you go back for the summer. You’re so happy to see all of your old friends and reminisce about all the crazy things you used to do together. You need to catch up hear all about their life, exchanged stories and just do the weird things you guys used to do together.
You reunite with all your old high school friends but it's harder to jell back into a routine. You’ve both seen so much, done new things, made new friends, you’ve both changed. You aren’t the same girl you were when you graduated high school. It’s bizarre like you’re livening this past life that is suddenly colliding with your new life but the pieces don’t quite seem to line up.
You have to resituate yourself within your family. You’ll always be a part of the family but you’ve moved on -- you’re growing up. They have developed a routine without you and you have developed a routine without them.
You all have to work together to make those routines line up. You might not see any problem with going out to get Wendy’s at 1:30 in the morning but your mother might have a very different idea.
Still, you are so glad to be home. You don’t have much time left to come home and be a part of your family like you are not. You cherish every second every minute you have with your family, knowing that you’ll bring those memories with you wherever you go.
No longer are you plagued by summer reading. Sure, you might take a class or two to get ahead on credits but besides that you suddenly have all this time. You have to figure out what to do for a whole three month, basically an entire semester.
You have to establish a new routine. Maybe go find a job, or explore the new parts of your city that have sprung up while you have been gone.
Summer is kinda weird. You’re no longer a kid who has been counting down the days till Summer since the beginning of January. You’re not going to Sports Camp or Drama Camp. But still, you are incredibly thankful for this time away from school to simply sit back, relax, and recharge.
