CONGRATULATIONS! Your college journey is about to begin.

Are you super duper excited, but kind of really freaking nervous all at the same time?!?! Honestly, stop stressing. You'll be happy as ever in just a few short months.

Everyone needs a few tips along the way, especially during their 50 first days of college.

So, here are 50 tips for your first days in your new world:

1. Take a few deep breaths.

2. Buy LOTS of command hooks.

3. Try to smile on move in day. I know it's stressful, but it's also a REALLY HAPPY DAY.

4. Don't be late for your first hall meeting. It's kinda awkward walking into a room full of strangers.

5. On that note, don't be late to your first week of classes.

6. In fact, scope out the locations of your classes before the first day.

7. Decorate your room how YOU want. Even though you're in a dorm, your side of the room can still reflect who you are!

8. Get organized and stay organized.

9. I know you want to sleep in, but try to get up at a good time each morning. It'll REALLY help you get stuff done.

10. Sleep in on Sundays.

11. Take at least one 8 am so you can experience the horror.

12. And then never take one again.

13. Pack a rain coat or an umbrella. Don't be that person who walks into class dripping water EVERYWHERE.

14. Make as many friends as you want, but don't be upset when you don't talk to them anymore.

15. Don't spend too much money on food, as SO MANY freshmen do. Utilize your dining hall's services...unless they have mystery meat. That's an exception. *cringes*

16. Don't be nervous when you have to do the "Introduce Yourself" ice-breakers. Everyone is nervous.

17. Study. Study. Study. Study.

18. Don't procrastinate. Turning in a paper 5 minutes before its due is going to create unnecessary stress.

19. DONT BUY YOUR TEXTBOOKS THROUGH THE BOOKSTORE. THATS WHAT AMAZON AND CHEGG ARE FOR.

20. Get involved. Cliche, I know, but it REALLY helps.

21. Stay in contact with your family.

22. It's okay if you feel homesick. And its okay if you don't.

23. Stay in touch with your hometown friends, but also remember that you're at a new school living in a new world. BRANCH OUT.

24. Know your drinking limits. Please.

25. Pick a comfy spot in the library and ALWAYS try to sit there. It'll help your concentration.

26. Try a few coffee drinks at local coffee shops, pick your favorite, and drink one (or five) every day. Trust me, you'll need it.

27. Dress up for class at least once a week. Even if you actually don't have your life together and you feel like the walls are caving in, it'll help you feel a little better.

28. Remeber your worth. Don't try to lower yourself, our build yourself up, to fit into a certain group.

29. Um, pack chapstick, gum, hand sanitizer, and a snack whenever you leave your dorm. You really might need all five before you return.

30. Always charge your phone the night before.

31. Never walk alone at night.

32. Make your bed every day.

33. Keep a detailed, color coded, elaborate planner that will ALWAYS keep you on track.

34. Once you get involved, your schedule will have very little wiggle room. But, still, allow time for yourself and your friends.

35. You won't understand why some things happen, and why they happen the way they do, when they initially happen. But, you will soon realize it was ALL meant to be.

36. Go on drives.

37. It's okay if you fail a test. My first semester freshman year, I got a 20% on my first college quiz and thought my life was over, but I studied really hard and got through it. You can, too.

38. Set high expectations for yourself. NOTHING pisses me off more than when someone says, "I'm shooting for a 75!" Um, no. SHOOT FOR A 100!

39. That being said, set realistic expectations for yourself. No one is going to finish college 3 years early or expect you to be perfect, even if you feel as though you have to be.

40. Grow. Grow. Grow.

41. You won't talk to some of the people (actually most) of the people you graduate with. You and I both know that's probably for the best.

42. NEVER apologize for being happy.

43. If you're a girl, invest in a crap ton of leggings.

44. Remeber that ALL of this hard work and stress is going to pay off.

45. Take a couple of online classes.

46. Find a part-time job.

47. Love yourself FIRST AND ALWAYS.

48. Did I mention study??

49. Stay positive.

50. Have fun.

Good luck!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
