Gratitude can be difficult. Especially in our day and age, it can become easy to be discouraged and at times feel as if there is nothing to be thankful for. Sometimes, it’s good to have a reminder of all of the blessings that we do have. After all, gratitude is an important aspect of a fulfilling life. When we are able to recognize the things in our lives that we are beyond lucky and blessed to have, we learn to appreciate life in all aspects- the good and the bad. The list that follows is a meager count of the many blessings we have. In reality, the numbers are endless. There is always something to be thankful for.

  1. You woke up this morning.
  2. You have air in your lungs.
  3. Your heart is beating.
  4. You have clothes to wear.
  5. You have food to eat.
  6. You have a bed to sleep in tonight.
  7. The roof over your head.
  8. An accessible education.
  9. The ability to choose and practice a religion.
  10. The ability to pursue your dreams.
  11. The people who love you and care about you.
  12. Clean water.
  13. You don’t have to walk miles to get water.
  14. You have Internet connection; most of the world does not.
  15. You have at least one mode of transportation.
  16. You have the ability to get a job and make a living.
  17. You live in a free country.
  18. You have access to health care.
  19. You get to choose who you love.
  20. Family that loves you.
  21. Friends that support you.
  22. Books, books, and more books.
  23. You can listen to any kind of music that the world has to offer.
  24. You can take part in one of the many cultures that exist in our world.
  25. You were created with a purpose.
  26. You have talents and abilities that are unique to you.
  27. There is only one of you in this world; the makes you pretty special.
  28. Coffee. Lots of Coffee.
  29. Sunday Afternoons.
  30. Your Best Friend. The one person who knows you better than you know yourself. Who you call whenever you need them, and they’re always there.
  31. Holidays. Especially those spent with the people you love most.
  32. Chocolate. And Peanut Butter. And all of the sweet things in life.
  33. Pets.
  34. Fresh fruit.
  35. MILKSHAKES.
  36. Fast food. Because who doesn’t need a good greasy cheeseburger every once in a while?
  37. The changing of seasons.
  38. Late nights with good friends.
  39. Having a job that means something to you.
  40. Pictures and the memories that go along with them.
  41. Long hugs.
  42. Driving on back roads.
  43. Good hair days (even though they can be very rare).
  44. Your favorite movie and the way that it resonates with you.
  45. Sleeping in.
  46. Getting into bed after a long day.
  47. Sunsets. There’s nothing like a sunset to make you appreciate nature.
  48. Traveling.
  49. Summer Concerts.
  50. This beautiful life we live. There are countless things to be thankful for.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
