As the semester comes to a close, I can't help but notice that the air is getting crisper, and it's getting everybody excited for winter break. In anticipation for the year and school to be over, here are a few of my favorite winter things!

1. Throwing on a snowsuit and driving north for skiing, or watching the new Warren Miller film

2. Sunday Night football

3. Spiked egg-nog

4. The crisp and cool air

5. Creighton Basketball games... Go Bluejays!

6. Spending time with family

7. Catching up with old friends

8. Not having to worry about school... as often.

9. Layering your clothes for extra warmth

10. Fireplaces (and space heaters)

11. Hot chocolate at night

12. Rainy mornings

13. All of the free time

14. Watching Elf twice a day

15. Book reading

16. Lush baths to stay warm

17. Tea drinking

18. Zoo lights

19. Going to the movie theaters.

As you may already know Rouge One comes out this year.

20. Playing with your pets

21. Talking to your college friends saying you miss them already

22. The smell of Christmas

23. Ice-skating outside

24. The feeling of home and being home

25. Especially sleeping in your own bed.

26. Thanksgiving dinner

27. Christmas dinner

28. Sleeping in

29. Feeling nostalgic when you are back in your old room

30. All the Christmas shopping

31. But mostly window shopping

32. Going to favorite hometown restaurants.

Dutch Bros and In-N-Out for my West Coasters

33.Staying out way too late

34. Family dinners

35. Fleece blankets

36. Or maybe even an electric blankets if your really cold

37. Ugg boots and hoodies

38. Not having to get dressed for class

39. Christmas music on the radio 24/7

40. And even more Mariah Carey when decorating the house

41. Christmas lights everywhere

42. Putting up decorations

43. Driving around your neighborhood at night to look at others decorations

44. Wrapping presents

45. Anticipating New Years

45. Trying to come up with New Years Resolutions

46. Waiting to go back to school

47. Preparing outfits for recruitment

48. Wearing tights and leggings

49. Roasting marshmallows and making Gingerbread houses

50. And finally being home to spend quality time with family

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
