Making friends in high school is much different than making friends in college.
In college, you can make friends in the most unusual ways. Being a third year in college, I have had my fair share of unusual friendship making.
1. I Met My Closest Friend On Yik Yak
Remember Yik Yak, that incredibly controversial app that was really popular a while back? Yeah, I met my good friend through that. (Wow, a lot of that ryhmed.) Yik Yak was known for being a breeding ground for bullying, men asking for sex from strangers and complete nonsense. I took a chance one night at college after marching band practice where I saw a post inviting strangers to play Cards Against Humanity. Not only is Yik Yak a weird way to meet someone, but playing this card game with someone during your first interaction is a bit odd as well. We still laugh about it to this day.
2. My Sperm And Egg Cell Keychains
This one was more embarrassing than I'd like to admit, to be honest. I had just gotten off of the bus from my only class of the day when I felt a tap on my shoulder and some random guy asking about my keychains. This was fine, but then I had to awkwardly explain how I wasn't a science major and just had a weird sense of humor.
3. The Dining Hall
Not super weird but, as a new college student fresh out of high school, it was incredibly weird. In high school, you have your clique you don't normally stray from. In college (at least on my campus), if you sit alone long enough, someone will come join you and introduce themselves.
4. Getting Hit In The Head With A Snowball
He actually aimed for my head, cracked up, and I proceeded to pelt him back with snowballs. Beautiful weather can bring out the best in people.
5. Having Someone Try To Get Into My Truck... Thinking It Was Their Truck
This was a more recent occurrence. I went outside to head to work and there was a guy pulling at my truck door looking frustrated. I've never seen a grown man blush more than him when he saw me unlock my truck with my set of keys. I think he felt obligated to be my friend after that.
