College is a busy time in your life and it is hard to stay focused when there are so many events and activities going on around you. Why would you want to do your homework when there is a hockey game? Trust me I've been there and I've done that. Freshman year of college I was always so distracted and I found it incredibly hard to stay focused on the important things. So I'm here to speak from experience and tell you five ways to stay motivated in college.
1. Your Friends Make a Difference
Who you hang out with will impact what activities you choose to do. If you have a roommate that is always wanting to go out, you will have a hard time saying no. This will affect your grades the most. Although college is a time to make new friends, meet new people, and have new experiences, it's good to keep in mind that you are here to learn.
2. Get Involved
A great way to stay motivated towards graduation, is to get involved with things that will help you with your major. For example, if you are a journalism major get involved with the University Chronicle. Or maybe you're a sports management major, get involved with Husky athletics. There are a lot of opportunities for involvement here at St. Cloud State, don't be afraid to try new things it will help motivate you now and it will help you after you graduate.
3. Make Time For Homework
If you make a designated time for homework you will most likely get it done in that time frame. Even if you just take and hour or two out of your day, you are bound to get plenty of stuff done.
4. Post-It Notes
Leave yourself Post-It notes around your room as reminders. It's hard to remember everything so make it easier on yourself. This will motivate you to get things done, because once they are done you can take the Post-It note down.
5. Encourage Yourself
Be your number one fan. Motivating yourself is going to be incredibly beneficial in the long run. Even if it's just a "You can do this" every once.
