5 Ways to Instantly Improve Your Day
Daily Dog Tag

Have you had those days when you just wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Of course you have, who hasn't? Those days make you feel gross and sad and ready for a restart button for your morning. Unfortunately those don't exactly exist in the world, BUT you can choose to make your day better. I know that sometimes it is easier just to be a slug and be moody, but why waste a perfectly day being grumpy when you could be happy? Here are some easy ways to improve your worst days and make them the best!

1. Compliment someone.

This seems weird. I know. Trust me. But someone a couple years ago challenged me to compliment someone every day. I thought it wouldn’t be hard but I realized that I am sort of an introverted person and most of the compliments that I have are in my head. I realized that once I told someone that I liked their shoes or they have a great smile (no matter how random or strange I sounded) it made the other person feel great! Now don’t just lie to someone to make them feel better but the next time you see a guy’s cool haircut or appreciate someone’s helpfulness, let them know! Remember: compliments are free.

2. Work out.

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F06%2F18%2F6360189015252479171554307446_spongebob.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=614&h=618c0bedd3dadddee291a5180edc12e0a8394c8156185971e554813b859387e0&size=980x&c=3791475488 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F06%252F18%252F6360189015252479171554307446_spongebob.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D614%26h%3D618c0bedd3dadddee291a5180edc12e0a8394c8156185971e554813b859387e0%26size%3D980x%26c%3D3791475488%22%7D" expand=1]

Don’t even start to roll your eyes. I totally get why this would seem annoying and like every other blog. You get it: working out is a healthy way of living and you feel better about yourself blah blah blah. While that sounds like a bunch of baloney, it kind of sort of is just a teeny bit true. I used to hate working out because I had to do it for sports, but now I just feel more productive because I want to work out. Now you don’t have to have be a gym rat, but it’s good to just take a walk or run around the neighborhood or do some practical exercises like lunges or jumping jacks. Something simple can go a long way!

3. Wear your favorite outfit.

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F06%2F18%2F636018906415797215-260327993_s-4f1b6b0f0706e2008271f82bfa81e05c487e1085.gif&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=106&h=4328f12c749404acffa9585b433ac84f787fbfeeaae3c97627ed8c1a307c5292&size=980x&c=139838416 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F06%252F18%252F636018906415797215-260327993_s-4f1b6b0f0706e2008271f82bfa81e05c487e1085.gif%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D106%26h%3D4328f12c749404acffa9585b433ac84f787fbfeeaae3c97627ed8c1a307c5292%26size%3D980x%26c%3D139838416%22%7D" expand=1]

I am a 100% believer in this mentality. There are some days where I would much rather not even get out of my pajamas if I didn’t have to. But unfortunately, most of us have to be adults which mean real clothes. If you are just not feeling work or school, try putting together your best outfit! You already know that you love it so why not wear it?

4. Eat something healthy.

[rebelmouse-proxy-image https://media.rbl.ms/image?u=%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F06%2F18%2F636018908397908940432722345_tiny-tree-parks-rec.gif%3Fw%3D650&ho=https%3A%2F%2Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net&s=21&h=cf726a126d7c79dd02a1ba9f894f4b694137336ebae42793d97acbb9212ed78b&size=980x&c=1767301049 crop_info="%7B%22image%22%3A%20%22https%3A//media.rbl.ms/image%3Fu%3D%252Ffiles%252F2016%252F06%252F18%252F636018908397908940432722345_tiny-tree-parks-rec.gif%253Fw%253D650%26ho%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Faz616578.vo.msecnd.net%26s%3D21%26h%3Dcf726a126d7c79dd02a1ba9f894f4b694137336ebae42793d97acbb9212ed78b%26size%3D980x%26c%3D1767301049%22%7D" expand=1]

Okay, this is totally like the work out thing and once again I get it. I’ll be completely honest and say I am probably the pickiest eater you will ever meet so don’t even think about making me eat vegetables and tofu. But there are simpler ways, that I realized, thanks to my dad, to be healthier. First of all, don’t eat as much ice cream (that’s specifically at me). Second, try eating at home instead of eating out or going to fast food restaurants. You can limit your portion control and try new recipes out with friends and family. It's a great way to connect with people and be a healthy new you.

5. Be surrounded by people who love you.

I realized that this is HUGE. Sometimes when you’re having a bad day, all you want is to feel validated and loved by people, and what better way to do that then to confide in those types of people? I know that some family and friends may be far away so it’s not like you can just go down the hall and hug them, but that’s why we live in the 21st century with technology where you can call or text or Facetime or Skype or whatever the cool kids are doing these days. Being around people who love you is an important reminder that not all bad days have to be bad.

6 Things Owning A Cat Has Taught Me

This one's for you, Spock.

6 Things Owning A Cat Has Taught Me
Liz Abere

Owning a pet can get difficult and expensive. Sometimes, their vet bills cost hundreds of dollars just for one visit. On top of that, pets also need food, a wee wee pad for a dog, a litter box with litter for a cat, toys, and treats. Besides having to spend hundreds of dollars on them, they provide a great companion and are almost always there when you need to talk to someone. For the past six years, I have been the proud owner of my purebred Bengal cat named Spock. Although he's only seven years and four months old, he's taught me so much. Here's a few of the things that he has taught me.

Kinder Self - Eyes

You're Your Own Best Friend

Kinder Self - Eyes

It's fun to see all of the selfies on social media, they are everywhere. I see pictures with pouty lips, duck lips and pucker lips. I see smokey eyes, huge fake lashes and nicely done nose jobs, boob jobs and butt lifts. Women working out in spandex, tiny tops and flip flops. I see tight abs and firm butts, manicured nails and toes, up dos and flowing hair. "Wow", I think to myself," I could apply tons of make-up, spend an hour on my hair, pose all day and not look like that. Maybe I need a longer stick!"
