How To Go Green In College

We're not the richest people when we're in college, but we can still help the planet!

How To Go Green In College

We live in a world with a lot of resources. If we're lucky enough to live in the U.S., it seems like we never run out of anything, but the truth is that there are not unlimited resources. One day we may not easily have access to anything, like a lot of unfortunate places have issues with already. Being in college it's not like we can do much; I mean a lot of us are barely able to pay for our rent and groceries during school. But here are a few very simple things you can do that won't cost you much.

Use the off switch more.

The energy you use that you aren't even around to use can add up to a lot over time. Leaving the bathroom light on while you sleep can use up a lot of energy that you didn't even need to use. Turn off lights when you leave a room! Turn off the TV, turn off the coffee maker when you're done, all those simple actions help a lot. Plus, it'll help your electricity bill go down!

Don't use plastic bags all the time.

You know those reusable bags that are sold at almost all grocery stores? Start buying them! They cost maybe another dollar when you first buy them, but then you get to use them for free when you bring them to the store after that. I know those plastic bags can come in handy when you have a cat or a dog and you can use them as ways to clean a litter box or pick up your dog's poo, but you don't need to get plastic bags every single time you go to the store. Plus (at least I know this for sure at Target since I work there) a lot of stores give small discounts whenever you use your own bags instead of their plastic bags, so you could be saving even more money!

Water Bottles are essential.

If you buy a water bottle once, you can use it as many times as you want and refill it in the free water fountains that are everywhere. Instead of buying a plastic water bottle everywhere you go, save yourself that money and reuse that water bottle! It helps out the environment and you!

Recycle!

This one is pretty self explanatory, and I'm sure it's the one that almost everyone does, anyway, if they can. Where I live, we have one dumpster for trash, and one for recycling. All I have to do is put things in the right dumpster! I know it's not always that simple for everyone, but it's not very hard either. If you can, just do it! Help out the environment.

Take a walk.

I know it's not possible to walk everywhere, but if you have the chance to walk somewhere, do it! Don't use your car if it's not a bad walk, or maybe if you have a bike ride that instead. You don't always have to take your car if you have the opportunity not to. Save those fuels going up in the air for a time when you need to use your car. Plus then it'll take longer for you to need to get more gas! It's another win-win!

Going green is not easy when you're dealing with a lot of other things in life, especially when the struggles involve needing more money, like a lot of college students do. We can't always afford buying organic meals or buying something that could be better use for the environment because it's out of our price range. However, these small things make a difference too, and if we all start doing these small things it'll be a big help. We can do it, everyone!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
