5 Ways To Cure Summer Boredom

Summer is usually a time when we are free to have limitless ambitions- no school, less work, and more friends around. But, without having as many responsibilities as at other points in the year, boredom comes all too quickly and can often cripple us. However, boredom is an easy thing to be cured of- especially when it happens to you frequently (like me.) Here are some of my tips for curing boredom.

Going on a walk.

Walks offer a nice change of scenery and pace from your home, and provide some physical activity as well. I've always found that taking a walk can lead to seeing something brand new, and discovering neat little things about the world around you. Going on a walk with a good friend is especially nice, or a pet. As simple as walks are, they truly are the best cure for a bored mind.

Watching a movie.

Either going out to an actual theater or viewing one at home, movies are always a good way to pass the time. May it be watching an old favorite or discovering something new, movies get you hooked and excited about their subject matter, and can give you a conversation topic. After I watch a movie, I always enjoy looking up facts about it on iMDb, or seeing what people have to say about it on Tumblr. Movies are the best!

Going for a drive.

As an alternative for a walk, a drive is one of the most peaceful and fun remedies for a case of the dull. Though you may not always have a direction you wish to go, by being able to get out, crank the music, and see what's going on in the world is always a good solution. So much of life takes place in the car, and often leads to discoveries abound. Driving is such a huge part of our culture, and is a great way to bond with someone. Go on out there!

Going to a cafe.

Cafes are some of my favorite places to visit. There is nothing I enjoy more than getting a nice cup of tea and a chocolate chip muffin so I can sit, relax, and people watch. All different types of people come to cafes, from hipsters to valley girls, and each one has a unique story. You never know the kinds of people you will meet when you head up your local coffee shop, and can be some of the best places to meet a friend. Plus, food and drinks can never go wrong!

Popping open a book.

As cheesy as it sounds, I truly believe that we as a society should be reading more. Admittedly, I don't read as much as I would like to- it can be difficult for me to keep my attention on anything for a very long time if I don't have something consistently moving and changing to look at. And I don't think I'm alone on this. Because we have become so accustomed to seeing things change and grow in front of our eyes, it can be hard to pick up a book nowadays. But, little by little, I think we can regain our love of reading. By starting out with a shorter book, and gradually growing to longer ones, we can show the world how great a good piece of literature can be.

Boredom is a common ailment across America. But, it is one that is treatable, and can be something that never comes again. For even though boredom happens to all of us, it leaves the best of us. And there is always a way to get rid of it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
