It's coming to the time of the school year where life becomes even more stressful. Midterms are here, work is asking you for more hours, and you suddenly have even less time for yourself than before. I know I'm not the only one who gets bombarded with stress. Since I had a tough week myself, I thought it might be a good idea to share a few of the ways that I helped handle my stress.
1. Take a nap.
This is personally my favorite way to relieve stress. When you suddenly have a lot going on, everything seems to make you feel even more tired than it used to. While it's important to be sure you don't sleep too often and end up getting nothing done, giving your brain and your body a chance to power nap occasionally can help give you a break from everything else and just relax.
2. Listen to music.
Whatever music that helps you relax and take a break, that's what you should listen to for a little while. Get yourself in a state of mind that will be able to focus on what you need to get done. Find good study music or listen to something you can dance to and get some energy out; whatever you need to do so that you can get work done efficiently. Finding a way to enjoy what you have to do makes it feel a lot less stressful.
3. Go for a walk or jog.
Whenever you get the blood flowing in your body, it can help you be able to focus for a longer period of time without getting distracted. Getting outside, going for a nice walk, breathing in fresh air. Those can really relax a person. Remember the beauty in the life around you, and let it all sink in. After you've let your brain wander for a while, wander back to your work and you might be able to retain even more information.
4. Call someone.
Whether it's an old friend you haven't talked to in a while or your mom, sometimes it's nice to get your mind off things with someone else. Have a conversation on the phone with someone and catch up on life, or make plans to meet up and spend some time together. Having that time to give your thoughts a break from all your responsibilities can really help keep your stress at bay for a while.
5. Watch TV.
I don't mean watch your favorite TV show on Netflix that always ends in cliffhangers and you'll end up watching all night because the show is so intense. I mean a sitcom, like Friends, where after an episode or two you're able to stop watching because each show is it's own. Give your mind time to pay attention to something other than your life, and then when it's time to buckle down and get work done you won't feel as stressed.
These aren't the only things that can help relieve someone's stress. Maybe listening to music actually makes you even more stressed, or you don't like cold weather enough to go for a walk. Everyone relieves stress in their own way, and I wanted to share how I relieve my stress. Maybe these gave you ideas of your own to help yourself, or maybe you're glad to see you're not the only one who watches TV when they get stressed. Either way, I hope you learn to live without letting stress overwhelm your entire world. There's too much fun in the world for it to be stressful.
