Spring break is probably one of the best times of the school year for college students. However, after all is said and done, not many of us actually did any school work or studying while we were free from our daily prisons called school. Most likely what happened is we either could be found at the beach every day and the hotel or club every night. Or, if you are like me, you could be found on your couch veggin’ and binge watching every TV show on Netflix. Because of this, when you get back to school, everything kind of just smacks you in the face at once. Here are some ways to help soothe the post-spring break weeks.
1. Stock up on frozen foods, instant meals, coffee, energy drinks and snacks
The next five weeks are going to be intense, so you’re going to need as much comfort food as you can get. The coffee and energy drinks will keep you going throughout the days and nights while you try and finish all of the work that you procrastinated on. The food will comfort you when you have your mental breakdowns.
2. Don’t slack
No matter how much you want to open up that Netflix tab or shop on Amazon, you need to focus on your studies. Don’t let yourself get behind because once finals week hits, it will all come back to bite you in the butt if you didn’t. Set aside time every day to look over past notes in your classes. Don’t let yourself be that person who doesn’t study for the test until the night before. I repeat: Do. Not. Do. That.
3. Sleep is a beautiful thing
Remember to sleep. There will be very long nights ahead, so if you can’t go to bed early, at least take a nap the next day. Your body needs it. You may have a lot to do, but getting that hour of sleep in between classes does wonders! At least you’re still sleeping at some point. Maybe it’s during the day, but that’s OK!
4. Take a break
I promise that you won’t die if you take a break. Pause. Let yourself de-stress. Go out and lay in your hammock. Get an adult coloring book. Watch only one episode on Netflix. It’s OK to let yourself take a break, just don’t go overboard and binge Netflix for four hours.
5. Don’t be afraid to ask for help
No matter how much you study, sometimes you just don’t get it. It’s OK if you need help. Ask some people in your class to get together and study before the test. A lot of people may not think that this is a good idea, but it really can be if everyone stays on task and works toward helping each other understand. Group work can be beneficial if you try.
