High school. The best and worst four years of your life. From Friday night lights, to playing in the auditorium, the memories are endless. But how do you fully move on and leave it all behind? Some would say to separate yourself from the environment, and the people, but then you are saying you are going to stop talking to the friends you have made that are younger than you. Not everyone has invested themselves into a program, such as football, band, orchestra and so many more clubs and programs. These are the 5 steps to move on from high school.
1. Don't say goodbye.
Saying goodbye means the end, and you should never say goodbye to people that you plan on seeing again. Yes, there are some people you probably don't want to see anymore, and that is okay. Instead of saving goodbye, there are alternates like "see you later", "when do you come home next?". Plan to see those people when you return home for holidays. Never say goodbye unless you plan on not seeing them again.
2. Pack up the memories.
Over the 4 years of high school, you collect a lot of items that leave memories that you don't want to throw away. Take a box, and put all the items that you have collected in it. This is an alternative to throwing things away, it is hard to let go most memories, this way you aren't leaving everything behind. Call the box "High school memories" and put it in an attic, basement or closet.
3. Leave behind the drama.
You are now an adult, which means you shouldn't be involved in drama or getting into stupid arguments. College is a completely different arena, and you can't be dealing with high school drama. If the drama is from a person, then its time to let that person go. This is where you have to start taking real adult situations.
4. Balancing time.
High school gives us a messed up sleep schedule, crazy hours of school and extra activities. You have to get your time management together and not sleep away the days. There is so much to be done and can be done in the morning. Its time to get into a college/adult lifestyle of school and if you have a job.
5. Get ready.
Now the real test, adulthood. Time to prepare for the rollercoaster of adulthood. It will have many ups and downs and real life test. How to cook for yourself, pay bills and so many things that no one has prepared us for. Getting ready is the best thing that you could do and prepare yourself for so many test that life will throw at you.
No one wants to throw four years of memories away, but you can still remember and keep hold of the memories but there is a time to move on. Everyone may have different opinions about how to move on, but this is my opinion about how I have moved on from high school.
