It is that time again in the semester where it seems like all of your professors had a meeting and decided that this week or the next two weeks are going to be absolute hell for you. We all knew this day was approaching, but we thought that we were getting ahead in all of our classes. Every time we think this, we could not be more wrong. Here are a couple of tips that have helped me deal with the stress of midterms that may help you.
1. Take a walk
Whether the walk is outside or just around the library, it is good to get out and stretch your legs. There are many times when the studying just seems never-ending and you have been sitting in one place for far too long. Though it may seem like it is something that is keeping you from your studies, it is good for you to get the blood flowing.
2. Take a break to eat
You should never forget to eat while studying because it is not healthy and just makes you angrier than you already are. If you can take a break to grab some food with friends that would be even better because that allows some time for your brain to relax and have fun with your friends.
3. Go work out
Doing a light workout always helps me get more energy to finish my studying. The key to this is that it should be a light workout just enough go get you active but not too much to make you tired. If after the workout you are not ready to get back to studying yet, that is okay because you will be after you take a shower and are refreshed.
4. Six-minute naps are key
Now this may not seem like something that would actually work, but in my experience it does. Taking a six-minute nap allows your body enough time to settle down without allowing your body to enter into a deep sleep. Every time I take a six minute nap I wake up refreshed and ready to study for another couple of hours.
5. Change study locations
Changing study locations allows you to not think about what you we were studying but rather think about where you are going to be spending the next couple of hours. Even though it does not seem like a study break, it is, because you are focused on getting from point A to point B. Going from the library to a coffee shop is great because you get to get in the car and jam out for a little while. By the time you arrive at the other location, you are refreshed and ready to go.
These are five things that help me handle the stress of midterms. Hopefully these will help you handle the stress also. Just remember, you can make it through midterms and you are going to rock them!
