5 Times You Just Need To Cry And Call Your Mom

Let’s all take a minute and be real: college can be “a nightmare dressed like a daydream” about 95.5 percent of the time. College is the time to find yourself and become the successful adult your parents have been hoping you will soon become. Without a solid support system, college can be the mission impossible. Throughout your four years of college, there will be those times when you just need to cry and call your mom.

1. The mid-study cramming break down

You have an exam tomorrow and you do not know as much as you should at this point in the night. You have already projected your final grade to see how bad you can do and still pull out the B. All you really need is a good cry and some motivation from your mom to help keep your spirits somewhat alive. After having your 20-minute long talk with your mom, you feel like you can conquer world hunger and your test.

2. The I have 20 cents in my back account break down

It’s only Tuesday, and you have 20 cents left in your bank account and your next allowance does not come till Monday. You are feeling the stress of the possible hunger for something besides what is on campus. You are regretting the two sorority shirts you bought and your trip to Wal-Mart to buy things you wanted, but may not have actually needed. You feel bad about calling your mom, but you know you need the tough love and you may just get $10 out of it.

3. The Post Himes Testing Center Break Down

You have hit the submit button, and the grade is not what you were expecting to see. Your whole world is basically ending in your mind, and you do not know what to do next. Leaving the public eye before the tears start flowing is your next goal. After spending hours on hours studying and now it all does not matter; all you want do is just go to bed and have a good cry to your mom. Even though you feel like a failure, your mom tells you that she is proud of you and that one grade does not make your future.

4. The Break Up Depression

Going through a break up is never easy, and being away from home only makes it that much harder. No matter how much support you are getting from your friends, sometimes all you need is just your mom. Granted, you may not get the hug you need. You can always have the glass of wine and lots of chocolate; while FaceTiming your mom. Your mom is the one person who does not care how ugly you look when you cry or how long you cry.

5. The Home Sickness

It has been two month since you have been home or seen your parents, and you are feeling the homesickness kick in. You have at least one more month till parents weekend, and you won’t be going back home till summer. When you get to that point of being overwhelmed and the only thing that is going to get you through the week is just a good cry and talking to your mom.

Moms are just a mature version of your best friend, and that’s just what we need sometimes. Feel free to cry and vent to your mom if that is where you are in life right now.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time.
