Niagara University is an amazing school for many reasons, one of which is the size of its campus. The close proximity makes it so students can leave their bed or the dining hall five minutes before class and still make it on time. Even though it's so tiny there are certain instances when students will be late to classes. It's never really acceptable to be late to class when you could plan ahead to ensure timeliness, but life happens. Here are 5 times its (kind of) okay to be late for class.
1. Clet-splosions.
Okay, this is gross, but we've all been there. You're in Clet before class and you eat something that just doesn't agree with you. You could either go to class and try to sit through the pain or run to a bathroom. The best choice is usually to stop in a bathroom. So if you suffer from a sudden Clet-splosion don't feel bad if you have to show up late to class. It's better than sitting through a class worrying about if you're going to Clet-splode.
2. Tim Hortons line.
The line to Tim Hortons can be super long at certain times during the day and sometimes you are in desperate need of coffee to keep you awake. On occasion, it's necessary to brave the long line if you're hungry before a long class. This is definitely a stretch and coming late to class with Tim Hortons is not the best idea, but if it isn't going to keep you from class too long then go for it. The line actually moves relatively fast and the food will keep you satisfied for hours. You won't be more than 10 minutes late, it's worth it.
3. A Printer is broken.
If you've gone to Niagara for at least a year, you have experienced this problem at least once. You get to the library before class, get all of your work done, go to print, and the printer is out of order. This isn't a big deal, but if you're cutting it close to class time you run into the danger zone. Not only do you have to rush to get your stuff together you have to find another available computer to print from. If being tardy means your work is tardy then you may want to sprint to class, but if not, then it's alright to be a few minutes late.
4. No parking spots.
This seems to be a problem for students who have full-time student parking passes at NU. There are only so many spots in O'Shea lots and even though the school sells spots there is that occasion where there are none left. In this situation, the only available option is parking in Dwyer lot B, AKA the farthest parking lot from academic buildings on campus. This is highly annoying if you are already cutting it close to class time (or if you spent $100 on a pass), but hey at least you aren't a girl walking back to O'Shea hall at 2 a.m. So if you can't find a spot, don't stress because you will find one and make it to class. Rushing may cost you a lot in parking fines and this is a situation where you can't help being late.
5. Walking the distance.
Walking from buildings on campus shouldn't ever really be a problem. There is always a ten minute time period between classes and our campus is very small. Though if you have to go from third floor Dunleavy to third floor Vinny's, then being late from time to time is acceptable. Some professors will keep students past class times and Dunleavy isn't very close to Vinny's. Add three flights of stairs per building to the equation and you're definitely not making it to class on time. Remember to breath when making that journey.
Next time you're running late to class, don't stress. Life is too short and when you rush mistakes happen. There are five times when it's somewhat okay to be tardy to class, but if you plan ahead to avoid conflict it will happen less often. Remember, timing is everything.
