Anyone who's ever even heard of the show "Entourage" probably knows that Ari Gold is, for lack of a better term, the man. If you don't know, Ari is a fictional super agent whose job on the hit HBO series is to manage fellow "Entourage" character, Vinny Chase, and his career through Hollywood. Not fictional, however, are the incredible quotes that Ari has created over the years. They made you laugh, they made you think, but more than anything, they summed up your life perfectly. Here's five times (there would have been more, but, you know, this is a family-friendly publication) that Ari just got it.
1. "Nobody is happy in this town, except for the losers; look at me, I'm miserable, that's why I'm rich!"
How true. You can't be happy at work, but you can't have money without it. Yeah, it's great to have a paycheck every so often, but Ari knows the price you pay for it. In just a couple of sentences, he wrapped up the entire concept that the American work force is based on. What a guy.
2. "I got to know what you think so I can get you to think what I think."
What a masterful use of the English language. People would have you believe that high school ends after high school, but that's not the case. Every day is a constant barrage of gossip and getting to know the latest so that you can use it in your favor. Ari understands this basic principle of life--you don't learn things for the sake of knowledge, you do it so you have a leg up on other people.
3. "I can't swear to that, but I promise that I will always apologize after."
Let's face it, we aren't perfect people. But life is all about selling yourself to the right people and trying your best to keep everyone on your good side. Ari knows that this is a tough fight, though. Sometimes, being perfect isn't promising to never make anyone upset with you; the best you can do is just say sorry as much as you have to along the way.
4. "I spend my life in here, being bored to death by you people."
One of the worst parts of the end of our school careers is the inevitability of having to find a job--a job where we'll be stuck in an office for hours upon hours, weeks at a time, with the same people, every single day. It's a fact of life that Ari just gets.
5. "I've always dreamed about ruling the world, but now that I'm getting older, I would settle for ruling Hollywood."
...or wherever you're from. Or maybe just your office. Or even just your shift. But whatever your specific situation may be, it's true that from that first day of a crummy job on, your aspirations slowly shrink and shrink until eventually, your big life plan settles for the small-time. Granted, ruling Hollywood is still bigger than any of us could probably plan on doing, but it's the same message, and it's Ari Gold we're talking about here. It's not a fair fight.
