5 Things Zeta Tau Alpha Taught Me

Go into college, I had no idea about sororities, other than that I maybe would join one. I wasn't a triple legacy at the "hottest" house on campus; I was the first person in my family to go Greek. Which is pretty scary to say the least. I was confused about what it all meant, and I wanted to make sure I went somewhere that I would fit in. So, although it originally wasn't my first pick, I found my home in Zeta Tau Alpha. Throughout recruitment workshop week, it just made me realize it a little bit more. And, of course I had to share everything I had come to know.

1. Only the best get crowned. I'm not lyin'. My sisters – there is a lot of them too – truly inspire me. I'm surrounded my genuine friendships, love, and compassion every day. Which makes me 100 percent sure that these girls truly are the best, and they deserve that crown.

2. Crafting. SO. MUCH. CRAFTING. From big/little canvases, paper flowers, decorating from recruitment, you name it – Zetas can get it done.

3. Sisterhood. As cliche' as it sounds, these girls truly become your family– so you might as well choose good ones. Even though you may not be best friends with every single girl that walks in those doors, they still mean something. I know that if I needed anyone, I could walk through ZTA's doors and open up to the first person I saw.

4. Acceptance. Not everyone you come across will have the same interests as you. We won't all have the same kind of personalities, and we won't all have the same friends, or choose the same major. That is what it makes it so great. It forces you to accept things outside of your comfort zone, and to learn to accept everyone around you. No matter what.

5. Philanthropy. I didn't even know what the word 'philanthropy' meant when I started formal recruitment. I sure do now, and I know that my chapter does an amazing job of supporting ours.

Going Greek may not be for everyone, and that is OK. However, if it's not, don't knock the ones who it is for. We are all a part of something bigger than ourselves, and I learn that more each day. So, even if you don't rush Zeta, I still encourage everyone to Go Greek.

p.s. Have a happy recruitment week, Mississippi State! ZLAM

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
