All too often we walk around with our heads held high and all our knowledge in our heads. However, sometimes you just don't know something. This can get you into trouble whether it be arguing for or against an idea or standard, or just not knowing the name of something. Things like names of food items, lyrics to a song, or political platforms often come up in everyday conversation and you should make sure you don’t look like an idiot when you start talking about something. Sometimes we even have to invent our own way of identifying things because we just don't know how or what to identify it as. Below is a list of 5 things that you should know going out into everyday life.
Number 1-- Stanchion (pronounced stan chin)
You know those things that are used for waiting lines. They use them at the movie theatres, banks, and other places. Yeah, those are called stanchions (stan chins).
Number 2-- A right that shall not be infringed means 'shall not be infringed'
Many people think that rights that are guaranteed can be limited by laws, and that these laws help make people safer or more secure. That's not true. A right is a right no matter who you are or where you come from, and no matter what 'right' is being questioned.
Number 3-- Just because a person is smart does not mean they have all the answers
As your friendly neighborhood smart person, I have had enough of people asking me things that I don't know the answers to. Just because someone is smart does not mean they know everything.
Number 4-- Anyone can be racist
I am white. I am not racist. I have been raised to not be racist in any way, shape, or form. White individuals are not the only people who can be racist. I have known black individuals, white individuals, hispanic individuals, and asian individuals that are all racist. The only way to get rid of racism is to get rid of the things that identify us as different.
Number 5-- Get over yourself
For some unknown reason, everyone has all of a sudden become so offended by everything that we can't be real with people. You don't like the way some asshole is acting in public? Don't say anything because that's rude and may violate his safe space. This needs to change. Just because you don't agree with something does not mean you have to pick at it. Want some solid advice? Get over it.
