A majority of people come from divorced families. That word, the one most people dread. Divorce. Followed up with the meaning of that your family is being split up. Either Mom or Dad is going to move out. But how can this be? The only thing I ever grew up knowing was that my mom and dad were supposed to love each other until eternity, the end of time.
Coming from a family of divorced parents definitely wasn't something that I imagined happening in my life, but then again, who does? It was, without a doubt, one of the biggest changes in my life, but it also impacted my life tremendously. Solely for the reason that not only was it just another obstacle that I emotionally overcame, but through it, I gained a second mother figure in my life.
Most claim to not like their stepmoms, or are under the impression of, “She’s not my real mom, so I don’t need to like her."
For me, my stepmom is someone who I look up to and is always there for me. But along with that, there’s a number of things that you wouldn't know if you don't have a stepmom.
1. She’s an extra support system.
Along with having your mom and dad, the ones who are there to cheer you on at one of your athletic games, or even just there to cheer you on with life, a stepmom can offer that same support. Making sure you're on the right path to success, she’s going to be on your side the whole way, as well.
2. Another shoulder to cry on.
When going through a hard time in your life, nothing feels better than being comforted and surrounded by loved ones. Stepmoms will gladly listen to all your problems and be there for you 100 percent, with advice along the way.
3. An extra role model.
We all need someone to look up to. Your stepmom can be that other person you admire and can be a role model for you. They've gone through just as much life experience as your biological parents, and would never hesitate to help teach and guide you.
4. She’ll treat you as her own.
Whether your stepmom has her own biological children or not, she'll always treat you as if you were her own. Because to her, you're considered her child. Along with that, she's a mother figure towards you.
