5 Things You Can Make in Your Microwave.
Funny or Die

For some of us, living off of a microwave can be quite an easy thing to do, but for others (not going to point fingers at myself) cannot really function without a kitchen.

Well, guess what?

We don't NEED the kitchen!

Well... in theory, the classy chefs of the high school years can go without a kitchen in times of dire need, but when your stomach is grumbling... it's a dire need.

So a saving grace: here is the top five list of things you can make in your microwave!

1. BACON

Yes! You can make the saving grace of all the foods in your microwave! It is actually pretty simple to do: all you need it a few paper towels, a glass or ceramic bowl (microwavable plastic doesn't work too well), and some patience. Just place the paper towels on the rotating disc with the bowl upside-down on top, then drape the bacon over the "hump" and nuke it for 5-8 minutes.

2. PASTA

Well... while not exactly a spaghetti dish in the making, elbow pasta as well as certain types of spirals can definitely be made in the microwave. All you need to do is pour the pasta to 1/4 the volume of the microwavable bowl and cover it with enough water to hover one-inch above, then blast that with the microwave for 2 minutes longer than the pasta cooks on the stove.

3. FRENCH TOAST

French... toast?! Yes you can make french toast in your microwave, albeit with some minor doing. You just need:
+ 1 tablespoon butter

+ 1/4 cup milk

+ 1 beaten egg

+ 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

+ 1/4 teaspoon white sugar

+ 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

+ 2 slices of bread, cut into cubes

What a mouthful (no pun intended)! Basically, melt the butter in a mug, coat the inside with said butter, stir in eggs, milks, cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla and press the bread into the mixture until soaked and there's not much mixture left, then nuke those suckers for about 90 seconds.

Trust me; it's worth it.

4. POTATO CHIPS

Mmmmhmm; you can make potato chips in the microwave. Unbelievable, no? Well, believe it because I'm going to tell you how to make them! You need a special tool, though: a mandolin. It's basically this:

Basically, you have to take this sucker and slice potatoes on the thinnest setting, then place the slices on parchment in a single layer and blast them for 5 minutes or until they brown. Then season to taste!

5. SALMON DINNER

If you are a foodie like me, you cannot even begin to fathom that is is, in fact, possible to make salmon in the microwave. It is, in fact, one of the coolest things I have ever made in that little appliance. For this you need:

+ 1 single-portion salmon filet

+ salt and pepper

+ 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

+ 1-2 tablespoons sriracha sauce

+ 2-3 cut lemon slices

+ 1 tablespoon parsley

Basically, rinse that sucker in cold water and let it dry, then place the salmon skin down and season with salt and pepper. In another bowl, mix the mayo and sriracha and then spread it evenly on the filet, topping with lemon slices and parsley. Wrap it up in microwavable-safe plastic wrap and nuke for three and a half minutes. If it isn't done, add another 30-45 seconds. Garnish it with some leftover lemon and parsley, just to touch it up.

And that is it.

Go brag to your friends. Screw the salmon. They'll be jealous that you have BACON!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
