With this recent election, negativity has consumed basically everything from my friends, to everything I see on social media. While sitting back and watching all of this occur, I ask myself where has all of the greatness gone? In a matter of four months, my wall went from being plastered with happy high school graduates, children, and overhead videos of food tutorials to walls filled with heated discussions about politics and absolute hate. Now that this election is over, I believe it is time for everyone to take a step back and realize all the greatness they have in their lives. There is so much to be thankful for in this world.
Your Health
If you are alive, breathing, and getting to take on everyday, that is something to be extremely thankful for. Some are not as fortunate and are in hospitals receiving treatments, battling cancer, having an operation, or so much more.
Your Home
Having a roof over your head and a nice, warm place to sleep is certainly something to be thankful for. We do not think about it too much, but having a home is a blessing and a luxury compared to some individuals who sadly live out on the streets hoping they will stay warm through the night.
Your Education
I know, often times student's say how much they hate school, and I am guilty of saying this as well. However, it is truly amazing that boys and girls in this country can go to school and receive an education that will last them a lifetime. You do not realize how fortunate you are to have an education until you discover some boys and girls do not have the ability to go to school.
Your Friends
Friends are an essential part to life. Friends get you through some of your most troublesome times, and they are there to celebrate with you in your most triumphant moments. The truest of friends accept you for all you are, and all you are not. They are there to encourage you to strive for your best.
Your Family
Having family means everything. While some families may be broken, there is still hope. I know for a fact I would never make it without my family. They take care of me when all is wrong, and they are their to encourage me to go after my aspirations. Their love is unconditional, and it is a love and bond that will last forever.
There is so much to be thankful for beyond this list. Whether it is your church, boyfriend/girlfriend, sports organization, or that you can stream every season of The Office on Netflix, I know there is so much more beyond this list that we are all thankful for. Instead of sitting down at the dinner table and giving all of your attention to your cell phone this Thanksgiving, enjoy the moments you have with the people you are surrounded by.
