5 Things I Would Change About Myself In A Heartbeat

We all have things about ourselves we hate.

Personally, standing in front of a mirror is the thing I hate most in this world. It gives me time to stare at myself and slowly pick out every single thing I hate. The stretch marks, the fullness of my face, the lumps on my thighs. I could go on and on, and it's heartbreaking. So many people hate far too many things about themselves and would change multiple things about the way they look if they could, usually without hesitation. So I decided to make a list of things I would change if the opportunity ever arose.

5. My Smile.

I used to have braces I was younger so my teeth are mostly straight. But my smile is just so dull. How am I supposed to light up a room with it? There's nothing extraordinary about it whatsoever. So if I ever had the chance, I'd brighten it up. No, not whiten or bleach it, brighten it. I'd learn to follow every smile with a laugh. I'd make sure I show my teeth and cheese like crazy for every picture so everyone would know how much I love life.

4. My Laugh.

Everyone hates their laugh. It's either too loud or whistle-y or snort-y. Sometimes you smile and squint your eyes and you feel like your face shrinks into nothing. So if given the opportunity, I'd make mine louder. I ask for a great, hearty belly laugh that's ridiculously contagious. If I'm laughing, I want you laughing with me. I want to smile so wide and laugh like I don't care who's watching because life is fun and is worth celebrating.

3. My Arms.
I know a lot of people who hate how jiggly their arms are or they don't like how they have no muscle. I get that, I feel that way too. But if I could ever change my arms, I'd make them longer and stronger. I want to be able to wrap up as many people as I can and hug them as tight as I can! Hugs make the world a better place. They are there in joyous moments, to bring people closer together. They are there in sorrow, to let others know that someone is near. Hugs are glorious and I want arms that make me better at it.

2. My Shoulders.

Some people feel their shoulders are too broad and that it makes their head look small. Some people feel the opposite. I feel like my shoulders aren't big enough, so given the choice, I'd make them larger. I want someone who needs to cry to have the adequate space to let it all out. I want to be there to make you feel better when you're down and to help bring you back up. My shoulders need to be ready for you at any time.

1. My Heart.

I really try to be a good person. I want to bring sunshine with me wherever I go, to brighten everyone's day. Sometimes, I forget to do that and I feel like being less than nice is far too easy. I don't stop to think what other people may be going through and sometimes I need to get my heart in the right place, so if I had the opportunity to put there, I would.

Don't try to change the way people see you. The way you see yourself and present yourself is more important. Love yourself and love others because that's what the world needs.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
